【 | 𝟔𝟐𝟎 & 1/70】

Do you happen to know what hidden meaning actually lies behind these two numbers?

【𝟔𝟐𝟎❓】20 June of every year is World Refugee Day 🌍. This year’s theme is "Until Everyone Is Safe", which reminds us that every single person has the right to seek safety🕊️. We hope to take this opportunity to once again urge everyone to pay attention to displaced persons and support their urgent needs 🏚️.

【1 over 𝟕𝟎❓】 Around 1 in every 70 people of the entire world’s population, is now forcibly displaced. As of June 2025, a total of 117.3 million people worldwide has been forcibly displaced, including 42.5 million refugees. Refugees are primarily concentrated in conflict-affected areas; 7 out of every 10 refugees come from Afghanistan, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine and Venezuela. They have been forced to leave their familiar homelands, just to escape armed conflict, seeking the most basic safety and security.

The identity of a “refugee” often becomes their shackles. Facing integration challenge such as language barriers, economic difficulties, and discrimination, sometimes what they lose is not only a "home" — but also the basic dignity that belongs to every human being 💔.

We believe that "dignity" and "humanity" are indivisible 🤝. Safeguarding a person's safety is not just providing a place to stay— it’s also about protecting the dignity and value they deserve as a “human being”.

Starting from today, let us offer more understanding and attention! Whether it’s making donation, volunteering, or simply sharing this post, you can bring hope and support to refugees.

Let’s pay closer attention to the realities faced by displaced persons together and turn the concept of humanity and dignity into action 🌍.

【 | Every Step She Leads】 In armed conflicts and disasters, women often face the loss of protection, insufficient medical resources, and even severe impacts to their lives and livelihoods. The Hong Kong Red Cross is partnering with various partners in multiple countries to deliver frontline support, including medical care, shelter, and emergency hygiene aid, while also support women in highly restrictive environments to rebuild their livelihoods.

If you would like to know more about the situations women face under the constraints of War, natural disasters and cultural constraints, you are welcome to check our educational kit. 👏👐

👏👐Have you ever seen “applause without sound”?

In Deaf culture, people express applause and appreciation by raising and waving their hands ✨. This “visible applause” is one of the unique cultural features of the Deaf community. These seemingly small everyday details reflect a way of life that is centered around visual communication. For many Deaf individuals and those with hearing impairment, this is not just a different way of communicating, but something closely tied to their sense of cultural belonging and identity 💛.

When we talk about “hearing impairment,” many people tend to think of hearing loss👂. However, within the Deaf community, some individuals proudly identify themselves as “Deaf” (with a capital “D” representing a cultural identity). They do not see deafness as something that needs to be “fixed,” but rather as a natural difference. Through sign language and visual communication, they build a unique culture and strong community bonds🤝.

On the other hand, some people prefer to identify as having “hearing impairment”. They may focus more on adapting to different environments in daily life and using support and assistive technologies, such as hearing aids or cochlear implants🦻, to communicate more easily and participate more comfortably in social and work settings. This reflects the different ways individuals understand adaptation and identity.

Whether one identifies “Deaf” or as having “hearing impairment”, there is no hierarchy between them . What matters most is respecting how each person defines themselves and how they wish to be seen.

In this way, diversity and inclusion are not just concepts but can naturally become part of our everyday lives 🫶🌈.

A recently released docudrama uses real distress recordings to recreate the urgency of relief work during armed conflicts. As we feel heartbroken by the cries for help on screen and witness the humanitarian workers' internal struggle between "security risk" and "saving lives" , we must not forget that in the real world, many humanitarian workers from the are striving in the face of the same dangers.

In recent years, casualties among frontline humanitarian workers have been on the rise, with over 1,000 humanitarians killed globally in just three years. This trend is deeply felt across multiple conflict zones such as Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine.

Within the movement, 13 Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and staff have died in the first four months of 2026 while carrying out humanitarian work. Nine of them were killed in violent attacks and four died in accidents while on duty, along with many others have faced attacks, injuries and threats. From 2023 to early May this year, almost 100 volunteers and staff from the IFRC network have died or been killed while serving their communities. This is part of a broader global trend, with 2024 marking the deadliest year on record for humanitarians worldwide.

But these tragedies must never become the norm.

International Humanitarian Law (IHL) exists precisely to protect those who are not participating, or who are no longer participating, in armed conflicts. It explicitly guarantees the right of medical personnel, humanitarian workers, and medical facilities to safely carry out relief operations in conflict zones. Civilians, humanitarian workers, and medical facilities must be protected at all times and must never be targeted. All State Parties have an obligation not only to uphold IHL in their own actions, but also to ensure that others respect it as well.

We hereby urge all parties to respect International Humanitarian Law, protect all fearless humanitarian workers, and ensure that relief operations are free from threats.

【Disability 101: Busting Blind-Spot Myths Hearing Impairment】⁉️

Do people with hearing impairment always use sign language to communicate?

Not necessarily! While sign language is an important and fully developed language system, communication methods among people with hearing impairment are actually very diverse. Whether someone uses sign language often depends on factors such as when the hearing loss occurred, their educational background, language environment, and personal preference. Some individuals rely on spoken language and lip-reading 👄, supported by text or real-time captions, while others may use both sign language and speech, switching flexibly depending on the situation 👐🗣️.

So when interacting with people with hearing impairment, it’s helpful to simply ask, “What’s your preferred way of communicating?” 😊💬 This small action can make communication smoother and help others feel respected and at ease ✨.

Understanding diversity is the first step toward building an inclusive community 🫶!

(People on the Move)。

[Humane.ways. | Values & dignity of human]
In Northeast Nigeria, years of conflict have forced many to flee their homes, turning them into “People On the Move” . Abubakar was one such person, forced to leave his village and abandon 500 head of cattle. During her displacement, he could only survive by taking odd jobs. Zara, a widow and mother-of-nine, was forced to give up her pottery business...

When we seek to embody respect for the individual and uphold human dignity, we aren't just providing simple food aid. Instead, we need to understand how to help them on different levels—such as through livelihoods and career development.

Taking these real-life stories as an example, with the ICRC’s livestock restocking program, Abubakar received donations and was allocated several lambs, allowing him to regain his identity as a herder. Zara also received funding to buy goats and with the income from the livestock, she also revived her pottery business and even earn extra income. These stories tell us that even though they have lost so much, their life experience and talent never disappear.

Everyone has their own unique story and experiences. Sudden changes in life may hinder their progress. However, as long as they get the chance or appropriate support in their new environment, they can demonstrate their resilience and make full use of their strengths.

“Respect” is not just a statement—it is action. It means using empathy to understand, to provide support in their power to help, so that everyone can regain the capacity and ability to welcome a new beginning.
