【 #生活人道 | #流徙者系列 - 同理同行•重燃希望】

「我們甚麼都沒帶走，身上穿的就是我能拿走的一切。」

Moustapha Haruna以這句話形容自己帶着家人在武裝衝突下逃難的境況。今年情人節，武裝暴力逼近尼日利亞Konkoso社區，數百人為保護家人，徒步187公里，逃往貝寧邊境小鎮Segbana。

同樣逃離至此鎮的前醫護人員Dahibu Sahidu說：「我們需要支援，幫助我們工作或學一門手藝，滿足生活需要。」雖然歸家無期，但他選擇把心思放在重建生活，而非漫長等待。

面對突如其來的大批流徙者，當地居民沒有拒人於門外 —本來只住兩人的房間，如今擠進15至20人，只為讓更多無家可歸的家庭有一處避風港。貝寧紅十字會義工亦持續當地提供衞生及健康支援，協助新來者適應生活。

流徙者被迫捨下家園，但鄰舍的理解與同理，會是他們重燃希望的推動力。

【 | – Walking Together, Reigniting Hope 】

“We didn't leave with anything, what I’m wearing is what I was able to take with me.”

Moustapha Haruna used these words to describe fleeing with his family under armed conflict. On this year’s Valentine’s Day, as armed violence closed in on Konkoso community in Nigeria, hundreds walked 187 kilometres to protect their families, fleeing to Segbana, a border town in Benin.

Dahibu Sahidu, a former health worker who made the same journey, shared “We need support to help us work or learn a skill to help satisfy our needs”. With no clear path home, he chooses to focus on rebuilding his life rather than waiting in despair.

Faced with this sudden influx of displaced families, the people of Segbana opened their doors and their hearts —rooms once built for two now shelter 15 to 20 people, so no homeless family is left behind. Benin Red Cross volunteers continue to provide health and hygiene support to help new arrivals settle in.

People on the move are forced to leave everything behind. Understanding and solidarity from neighbors can reignite their hope
and power their rebuilding.

抵達邊境人數減少，代表流徙危機下降?🤔

真相可能剛剛相反：天災、戰亂、經濟壓力及政策變更，正不斷改變流徙路線，更多人身陷險境，無法抵達目的地。

國際移民組織(IOM)最新數據顯示，今年首四個月經中地中海路線抵達歐洲的流徙者按年下跌46%，但高達821人在旅途中死亡或失蹤，較去年同期急升逾一倍﹔單單一月，風暴哈利就帶走逾半數性命。至於經西非大西洋航線抵達西班牙的人數雖大跌78%，實情卻是出發點被迫南移，路程更遠、更兇險。🚨

每組數字背後，都是一個有家人苦候歸來的生命。國際紅十字與紅新月運動秉持人道原則，策略性地於全球主要遷移路線上設立逾600個「人道服務點」，為流徙者提供食物、醫療、心理支援及家庭重聚等協助。不論他們的法律地位或原居地，其安全與尊嚴都應獲同等保障。🫂

【 | – The cost of declining numbers of border arrivals】

Does a drop in border arrivals mean the crisis for people on the move is easing? 🤔

The truth may be the opposite. Severe weather, war, economic pressure and shifting policies are reshaping migration journeys, leaving more people in danger or even unable to reach their destinations at all

New data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) shows that in the first four months of 2026, arrivals along the central Mediterranean route to Europe fell 46% year-on-year. Yet 821 people died or went missing along the way, more than double the figure for the same period last year. Over half of these deaths occurred in January alone, when Cyclone Harry struck the region. Meanwhile, arrivals in Spain via the west African Atlantic route plunged 78%, but only because departure points shifted further south, making the journey even longer and more perilous. 🚨

Behind every number is a life that a person whose family is still waiting for them to come home. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement upholds the principle of humanity by strategically setting up more than 600 Humanitarian Service Points worldwide along major migration routes worldwide. These service points offer people on the move(POM) food, medical care, psychosocial support and family reunification services. Regardless of a person’s legal status or origin, their safety and dignity deserve equal protection. 🫂

May every moment of attention give lives in danger one more chance to be seen and treated with the respect they deserve.

【Humanity 10 Years・01 | 45 Seconds to Decode the story Behind our “10” Anniversary Logo】

How many stories could a logo hold?

Since its establishment in 2016, the Hong Kong Red Cross Humanitarian Education Centre has been dedicated to immersive experiential learning and values-based education. Through our 4E Education Model—Explore, Experience, Exchange, and Engage—we combine visual, auditory, and tactile elements to bring into focus the realities of armed conflict, displacement, climate crises and humanitarian issue to light.

We believe everyone has the ability to help others in ways within their reach, alleviating the suffering of those around them and helping others live with greater dignity. Through education, we hope to connect people, fostering understanding and cooperation to build a world guided by humanitarian values.

Within our 10th anniversary logo lies an entire humanitarian landscape:

🌊Waves and forests — Experiencing the profound human impact of extreme weather;

21 September marks the annual International Day of Peace, a global day devoted to ceasefire and non-violence. Peace is not merely harmony between nations; it also encompasses mutual understanding, respect, and inclusivity among individuals.

At this very moment, tens of millions of displaced people around the world have been forced to flee their homes due to armed conflicts and natural disasters. Behind every stark statistic lies a real life enduring severe food shortages, a lack of medical care, and yet longs for safety and stability.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement continues to carry out emergency relief operations worldwide, providing immediate assistance to displaced people and vulnerable communities to help them regain dignity and hope.

Here is how you can take concrete action to extend humanitarian care:

「流徙者」(People on the Move) 並不遙遠，他們可能就是我們的同學、同事，甚至是左鄰右里。早在19世紀，已有不少多元文化族群扎根香港、繁衍生息。儘管他們早已是香港的一份子，大眾對他們的理解卻依然有限。

「即使到了第三代，我們依然被貼上『少數族裔』的標籤。」Reena道。

土生土長、能說流利廣東話的Reena，是第三代尼泊爾裔香港人。現時主修社會工作課程的她，曾於香港紅十字會實習。雖然她認為香港的包容性相當高，但成長過程中並非一帆風順。即使她自小已懂廣東話，童年時曾因自己的背景遭同學排擠。此外，為非華語學生而設的中文課程過於基礎，初小階段仍在重複學習顏色和數字等簡淺內容，導致他們難以追上進度，落後於華裔學生。

這些經歷讓她更堅定投身社工行業，希望未來的工作能幫助多元文化群體爭取公平機會，並建議政府與企業設立「多元文化配額」，在招聘、升遷、招⽣或其他選拔過程中，設最低少數族群保障比例或名額，為各族裔提供平等階梯，以促進多元化。

"People on the Move" are not as far away as we might think, they could be our classmates, colleagues, or even our neighbors. Diverse multicultural communities have taken root in Hong Kong since as early as the 19th century. Although they have lived here for generations and become an integral part of the city, they remain little understood by the wider public.

"Even by the third generation, we are still labeled as ‘ethnic minorities’," says Reena.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Reena is Reena is a third-generation Nepalese Hong Konger who speaks fluent Cantonese-speaking. Currently majoring in Social Work, she previously interned at the Hong Kong Red Cross. Although she feels Hong Kong is generally rather inclusive, her upbringing was not without hurdles. Despite speaking fluent Cantonese since childhood, she was excluded by peers due to her background. Furthermore, the Chinese curriculum for non-Chinese speaking students was overly basic, with lower primary classes still repeating elementary concepts like colors and numbers, making it difficult for them to catch up with their Chinese peers.

These experiences only solidified her resolve to pursue a career in social work, hoping to help multicultural communities advocate for equal opportunities. She suggests that the government and corporations establish "diversity quotas", setting minimum representation targets for multicultural communities in recruitment, promotions, admissions or other selection processes , thereby creating an equal sping ladder for all ethnic groups and promoting diversity.

Behind every culture lies a story worth listening to. As long as we are willing to shed labels and prejudice to actively understand one another, we will find common ground among us.
