Catching some rare Edinburgh sunshine on the Portobello Promenade! We are deeply honoured that our co-founder, Dr. Joyce Samoutou-Wong, was celebrated in the 300 Faces of Edinburgh Medical School exhibition that concluded on Sunday. We’re so grateful for the generous donation of a PlenOptika QuickSee device to New Sight—an important tool that will support our team in delivering more efficient and accessible eye care in Congo whether in the hospital or in outdoor screenings. A heartfelt thank you to Dr Priya Morjaria and Dr Andrew Bastawrous, and to the team at Peek Vision, for their support and partnership. We’re looking forward to putting the device into use soon and sharing updates from the field.

A Quick Update on Regional Health and Our Safety Protocols 🌍💙

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with care and concern following news of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) 🇨🇩.

We know the similarity in country names can cause confusion, so we wanted to clarify that our work takes place in the Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) 🇨🇬, while the current outbreak has been reported in parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC, or Congo-Kinshasa).

Our hospital site in Ouesso is approximately 3,500 km from the epicentre of the outbreak, and there are currently no reported cases in our area. Our teams, volunteers, visitors, and local staff remain safe and unaffected.

That said, we are taking the situation seriously and reinforcing staff training, hygiene, screening, and safety protocols across our operations while continuing to monitor guidance from WHO and regional health authorities.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the healthcare workers and communities responding to the outbreak in the DRC and Uganda.

現特此向大家報告最新情況： 我們服務的地點位於剛果共和國🇨🇬（剛果-布 Congo-Brazzaville），而當前疫情主要發生在剛果民主共和國🇨🇩（剛果-金 Democratic Republic of the Congo）的部分省份。我們在韋索的醫院距離疫情中心約3,500公里，目前當地並無任何確診個案，我們的團隊、義工、訪客及本地員工一切平安，未受影響。

儘管如此，我們仍嚴肅對待疫情發展，並正加強員工培訓、提升衞生措施、強化篩查及安全流程，同時持續跟進世界衞生組織及地區衞生機構的指引。
