Art Connects Asia: Highlights from the “Hong Kong Asia Student Art Exchange Camp” 🤩
In January this year, immediately following our annual event—the award ceremony and exhibition for the 6th Asia Youth & Children Arts Festival Art Competition—the “Hong Kong Asian Student Arts Exchange Camp”, organized by the Hong Kong Arts Exchange Association, was held warmly at Mu Kuang English College on 18 January 2026. More than 60 students from Beijing, Mongolia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and local Hong Kong schools gathered to embark on a heartfelt and creative journey of artistic and cultural exchange.
The camp opened with lively welcome speeches by two student representatives from Mu Guang English School; their warm smiles and sincere greetings instantly brought everyone closer. Mr. Eric Kwok, our Assistant Honorary Secretary, and Mr. Ryan Au, the school’s Assistant Principal, followed with encouraging and supportive remarks. Participants then enjoyed two excellent cultural performances by the college students, which drew enthusiastic applause 👏. This was followed by group team-building activities that helped young people from different regions break down language and cultural barriers through games and cooperation—laughter filled the room and friendships formed quickly. 😊
Then the highlight was an indigo dyeing workshop led by Indigo x Myspace 🎨. Participants not only learned about the craft and techniques of indigo dyeing but also folded and tied white cloth themselves and immersed it in the dye vat to experience the magical process of dyeing and oxidation. As their pieces gradually transformed from plain white to deep blue and revealed unique patterns, faces lit up with delight. Attendees also tried traditional lacquer dyeing (an intangible cultural heritage craft), freely combining vibrant lacquer colors on small fans. Holding their handmade artworks, everyone wore satisfied smiles.
The school arranged a special campus tour that led participants to several distinctive classrooms. In the Amazon STEM Centre 🐍, students observed various amphibians up close—an opportunity to appreciate ecological wonders, and some even bravely reached out to gently touch the animals, creating moments that were both amusing and heartwarming. At the Space M, participants experienced the thrill of piloting a flight simulator 🛩, proving that technological exploration beyond the arts can be equally eye-opening.
At the end of the event, each participant received a certificate of participation. Everyone then stayed for lunch in the campus canteen, continuing the joyful atmosphere. Students from different places chatted and laughed, bringing this creative and culturally rich exchange camp to a delightful close. Their engagement helped art transcend boundaries and connect more young minds, turning the day into an unforgettable memory for all.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to master of ceremonies Wong Ho-lam for his professional leadership, to Mu Kuang English School for its full support and the enthusiastic participation of its staff and students, and to the instructors from Indigo x Myspace for their attentive guidance.
