The India Association Hong Kong is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization. The India Association is one of the oldest Indian organisations in Hong Kong.

It was founded for the purpose of organising social and cultural activities for the Indian diaspora living in Hong Kong. Presently, we still offer the same services not only to Indians but to all those who are interested in the Indian culture, religion and its people. Given that Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan city with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, we now also work towards improving the livelihoods of all those who now call Hong Kong as their home, particularly those who are not ethnic Chinese. We embrace diversity and look forward to Hong Kong truly becoming a multi-cultural city.

A delegation of The India Association Hong Kong consisting of President Vishal Melwani, Ex Officio Mohan Chugani, Vice President Richard Albuquerque, Hon Treasurer Arun Nigam and Committee Member Vinita Turakhia had a productive meeting today with the recently appointed Ambassador of India to the PRC, His Excellency Mr Vikram K Doraiswami, the Consul-General to Hong Kong, Mr Rajesh Naik and their colleagues. We briefed them on the activities of the Association, and discussed both issues faced and opportunities available to the Indian community in Hong Kong.

We are grateful for their generous allocation of time in a busy schedule.

Yesterday, Committee Members of The India Association Hong Kong met with Dr. Tang Kam-shing, Chief Executive of Kwong Wah Hospital, to discuss Queen Elizabeth Hospital's relocation to Kai Tak. With the move occurring in phases—starting with the Outpatient Department in October 2026 and concluding by late 2028—we highlighted travel challenges for the local South Asian community and proposed transit solutions like dedicated shuttle buses from nearest MTR stations. We also addressed the need for translation services, exploring community volunteers while prioritizing medical accuracy and patient confidentiality. Additionally, we emphasized training staff to better utilize existing South Asian dietary options. Addressing local doctor shortages, we discussed recruiting overseas professionals, including from India, though Dr. Tang noted language barriers for junior roles and a local preference for generalists over super-specialists as key barriers. Overall, it was a highly fruitful discussion reinforcing our shared commitment to accessible and inclusive healthcare.

The Executive Committee of The India Association Hong Kong notes with sadness the passing of Mr Tung Chee-hwa, the first Chief Executive of the HKSAR and former Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with his family as we remember his immense contributions and unwavering commitment to our city and the country.

The India Association Hong Kong celebrated the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of India with a grand cocktail on Thursday 13 August 2026.

The Chief Executive, the Honourable Mr John KC Lee and our Patron, the Consul General of India, Mr Rajesh Naik, addressed the gathering as our guests of honour, along with our President, Mr Vishal Melwani.

Excellence Awards were given to accomplished members of the medical profession and disciplined services, together with former Chief Secretary Mr Mathew Cheung to recognise his efforts to improve the welfare of Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities. 20 scholarships were also awarded to deserving students.
