We sincerely thank everyone who attended 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙖 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙚𝙖 — 𝘼 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩. Through the exhibition, talk, and workshop, we shared creative practice and reflection on the connections between the ocean, identity, community, and Hong Kong’s maritime history.

Presented at HART HAUS G/F from July 19 to 21, 2026, the installation was a collaboration between HART Studio Artist Gisèle Tchitchiama and The Foundry of The Harbour School led by Dean Lea, Foundry Specialist Teacher (Center of Excellence). As a living archive, it invited the public to share memories of the sea, weaving these stories into the artwork and extending it into an ongoing dialogue.

More than an exhibition, “Memoria of the Sea” became a space to reflect on and reconnect with Hong Kong’s maritime identity. The project will continue to tour, so please stay tuned for future updates. Thank you again for your support and participation.

In 𝘻𝘻𝘻_𝘪, Wu Jiaru combines oil paint with reflective fabric to simulate the fluidity and diffusion of ink painting, reflect her exploration of the relationship between traditional brush language and contemporary materials.

Her latest mini painting 𝘺𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸_𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘦_𝘴_𝘪 moves toward a more immediate and expressive use of color, with compositions that feel dynamic and emotionally charged, revealing another facet of her painterly language.

In contrast, the rare drypoint print „𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩” returns to the discipline of line, where controlled and deliberate incisions demonstrate her sensitivity to rhythm and pressure, as well as her strong command of form.

Jeffrey Hung (b. 2001, Hong Kong) A 2023 graduate of the School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Jeffrey Hung focuses his creative practice on bamboo art. By reinterpreting traditional Hong Kong paper-and-bamboo crafting through a contemporary lens, he reconstructs materials and structures to endow the medium with a new aesthetic context and vitality.

In 2023, Hung co-founded the arts group “Zaat Hap,” viewing craft as a vital pathway for social connection. His artistic practice spans educational outreach, placemaking, and community art. By intervening in the public sphere, he profoundly interrogates the existential value and evolutionary potential of traditional craftsmanship within modern society.

Mineral pigment painting and 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘣𝘪 painting each carry their own distinctive artistic language and historical lineage. This course begins with the Song dynasty classic flower-and-bird painting 𝘊𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴. While preserving its elegant forms and refined composition, participants will freely reinterpret it through the expressive language of contemporary mineral pigment painting.

During the course, participants will not only savour the subtle and exquisite spirit of Song dynasty flower-and-bird art, but also explore in depth the rich textures, luminosity, and layered depth of mineral pigments and master key techniques, including raised powder (li fen), glazing, surface polishing, and gold leaf application. Participant will complete a unique mineral pigment artwork that harmoniously blends classical elegance with contemporary aesthetics.

“Memoria of the Sea — A Living Archive Project” is a touring exhibition that reimagines the boat as a vessel of memory, heritage, and community engagement. Inspired by Aberdeen’s fishing history and Hong Kong’s maritime legacy, the installation is made of bamboo, reclaimed materials, and repurposed fishing nets, forming a poetic structure that bridges the past and the present.

The exhibition reflects on the historical connection between Aberdeen and Kennedy Town. In 1952, the government relocated the Kennedy Town Fish Market to Aberdeen, marking a major shift in Hong Kong’s fishing landscape. While Aberdeen became an important fishing port and typhoon shelter, Kennedy Town remained part of the wider maritime network, carrying traces of a once-vibrant coastal economy.

As a living archive, the installation is a collaboration between artist Gisèle Tchitchiama (gisele tchitchiama) and The Foundry of The Harbour School (THS Foundry The Harbour School). It invites the public to share personal memories of the sea, which become part of the evolving artwork. Through this exchange, “Memoria of the Sea” offers a reflective space to rediscover Hong Kong’s maritime identity.

From conversations between students and artists, to co-creation workshops with The Lok Sin Tong families (), and finally to the exhibition itself, the “𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲: 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲” project has unfolded as a meaningful journey of exchange, learning, and collaboration among students from the Curatorial Practice course at the 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀, 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 (), artists, the community, and HART HAUS.

At HART HAUS, we believe in creating space for schools, communities, and artists to come together through shared making and dialogue, while extending creative practice beyond our walls to foster meaningful connections with the wider community. This project reflects that spirit by exploring “home” as something shaped through relationships, memory, care, and co-creation. Through initiatives like this, we hope to support young voices, strengthen community connections, and champion co-creation as a way of learning, engaging, and imagining together.

A heartfelt thank you to all participating students, course instructor Professor Janet Fong, HART Studio artists, exhibition participating artists, The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, and their families, as well as our partners, for making this project possible.

HART HAUS

This painting is one half of the diptych Mode of Watching (In & Out), which explores ambiguity and shifting viewpoints in how events are structured and interpreted. It adopts the proportions of a screen, presenting a bird’s-eye view of anonymous figures arranged in an orderly, uniform formation across a sports field. Seen from a distance, these bodies collapse into a rhythmic sequence of eye-like symbols, transforming individual presence into a collective pattern of sameness. The ordered geometry of the field suggests systems of discipline and spectatorship, while the repeated eyes imply mutual observation.
