CHAT 六廠 CHAT is a community museum located on the 2/F of The Mills in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong.

CHAT’s Identity
Inspired by the fundamental structure of warps and wefts in woven textile, CHAT’s logo reflects our mission – to integrate different voices, disciplines and practices. Eight distinctive colours were developed from architectural features in the factory buildings as well as features reminiscent of Hong Kong’s textile industry. CHAT’s Vision
In the state of geo-political turmoil in the 1950s Asia Pacifi­c, the textile industry in Hong Kong sowed its seed and achieved a rapid development throughout the latter half of the twentieth century. Today, CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile) represents a new place of new beginnings in the next phase of Hong Kong and Asia’s textile arts development and innovation. Paying homage to the progressive energy of Hong Kong’s textile industry in the past and taking advantage of the multiple meanings associated with plain cotton yarn, CHAT will tell the stories of Hong Kong’s textile industrial history and beyond, challenge the conventional meanings of textile arts and present myriad interpretations of textile material and subject matters. We invite our visitors to experience the spirit of the innovative legacy of Hong Kong's textile industry and engage in new dialogues and inspirational journeys that interweave contemporary art, design, heritage and community. 靈感源自編織過程裡最主要的結構「經」與「緯」，CHAT 六廠的品牌標誌顯示出我們的使命 —— 將不同的觀點、專業與實踐模式交織在一起。由工廠大廈的建築特質及香港紡織業的昔日點滴出發，發展出我們獨有的八種顏色。

CHAT六廠展望
上世紀五十年代，正值亞太區陷於環球政治動盪之際，紡織業在香港漸漸萌芽，其後於二十世紀下旬迅速發展。時至今日，CHAT 六廠（六廠紡織文化藝術館）將會為香港以至亞洲的紡織藝術孕育潛力與創新的全新空間。

為了向昔日香港紡織業那份不斷求進的幹勁表示敬意，同時展現紗線所蘊含的多重意義，CHAT 六廠將會訴說香港紡紗工業的歷史故事及其他種種、挑戰紡織藝術的傳統意義，並展示紡織物料千變萬化的表現手法和相關主題。我們誠邀參觀者去感受香港紡織業勇於創新的精神；並在紡織的領域裡，於當代藝術、設計、歴史與社群共冶一爐的氛圍下，展開一段段啟發思考的旅程和交流。

展覽的起點由兩套「傳統」巨型校服展開；而盡頭則是另外兩套巨型校服——黑色的校服！🖤 藝術家 陳惠立 於今年三月舉辦了一個工作坊，他從參加者的創作中挑選出這兩款大膽設計，並將其轉化成藝術裝置，讓大家重新想像校服的可能性。

試想像，如果整間學校的學生都穿上這樣的校服，會是一幅怎樣奇特又有趣的畫面！🤩 想看看其他參加者的作品，或親自分享你天馬行空的設計嗎？不妨來到CHAT客廳，拿起畫筆，體驗成為一次「校服設計師」！✨

【Design Your Dream School Uniform! 👩🏻‍🎨👨🏻‍🎨】
If you could design a school uniform, what would it look like?

The exhibition begins with two enormous ‘traditional’ school uniforms, and concludes with another two equally enormous school uniforms in black! 🖤 Earlier this March, artist Chan Wai Lap led a workshop inviting participants to reimagine school uniforms. Inspired by their creations, he selected two particularly bold designs and transformed them into large-scale installations, encouraging us to rethink what school uniforms could be.

Just imagine an entire school filled with students dressed in uniforms like these, what a fascinating sight it would be! 🤩 Want to discover what other participants have created, or share your own imaginative design? Head to CHAT Lounge, pick up a pen, and experience what it feels like to become a ‘school uniform designer’! ✨

【那些年，我們共同經歷的校園時光🎓 】
香港藝術家 #陳惠立 在「織時大叫！」展覽中重構出本地的學校場景：校服、皮鞋、課桌、獎盃櫃和直尺逐一映入眼簾，配合他獨特的幽默感，讓觀眾彷彿一瞬間 #回到校園時。🏫

展場中不少作品都將校園日常物件「巨大化」——特大的校服、巨型皮鞋，以及以頭髮為靈感的「髮門」裝置。這些被放大的物件看似趣味十足，背後卻讓我們重新思考學校、成績與體制，對學生而言的重量。🎒

對陳惠立而言，校園回憶可謂苦樂參半。雖然他在繪畫方面表現出色，學業成績卻未如理想，甚至曾因成績不佳而需要轉校。來到展覽的最後一章，他希望以過來人的身份，與大家一起重新想像規範以外的可能性。

在閉幕活動 #新心髮剪 中，我們邀請你親手修剪「髮門」裝置上的「頭髮」，按自己的意願重塑作品。✂️ 把不安、壓力與成長中的掙扎，轉化成為創作的力量！✨

【Those School Days We Shared 🎓 】⁠
Hong Kong artist recreated a local school environment with school uniforms, a shoe, desks, trophy cabinet and ruler, all infused with his unique sense of humour, bringing visitors back to their school days. 🏫

Many of the works in the exhibition enlarge the everyday school objects — oversized uniforms, a giant leather shoe, and a ‘hair gate’ installation. While playful at first glance, these enlarged objects invite us to reflect on how large the role of a school, grades and expectations can play in students' lives. 🎒⁠

For Lap, school memories are bittersweet. While he excelled at drawing, he struggled academically. Due to poor grades, he had to transfer to a different secondary school. In the final chapter of the exhibition, he hopes to speak from his own experience and invite visitors to reimagine possibilities beyond rules and expectations.

At the closing event ‘New Heart Hair Cut’✂️, you will be invited to cut the ‘hair’ of his large-scale installation ‘Cut Cut Hair Gate’, reshaping the artwork however you like while releasing bottled-up emotions that turn your worries and vulnerabilities into art and leave with a new perspective! ✨

由澳洲藝術團體 Slow Art Collective 帶來的互動作品《ESP/能量光譜派對》，是一個以大型竹製結構搭建而成的編織空間，邀請各位親身參與創作。

大家可以自由選用色彩繽紛的紗線及布條，在裝置上進行編織、打結或纏繞——無需追求「完美」的成果，只需自由地享受創作的樂趣。

現場的每一個繩結，都承載着參與者的創意與心情，亦讓作品在大家的共同參與下持續成長。

【Interactive Weaving Station｜Public Co-Creations 🧶】
The interactive work ‘ESP / Energy Spectrum Party’ created by Slow Art Collective from Australia, is an weaving station built with a large bamboo structure, inviting all of you to take part in the creative process. ✨

Visitors can use the colourful threads, yarns and fabric strips for weaving, plaiting, tying and knotting onto the installation — the work does not need to be neat or perfect, simply enjoy the pleasure of making.

Each knot carries the creativity and emotions of its maker, allowing the work to continue growing through collective participation.

今個夏季，CHAT六廠已轉化為充滿活力的創意空間！夏季展覽 「織時大叫！」 帶來 阿古斯．努爾．阿馬爾、PM Toh、陳惠立 及 Slow Art Collective 的作品。藝術家們以充滿趣味的手法，探索日常壓力的來源，並邀請觀眾透過觸摸、編織、角色扮演及歡笑，重新感受創作帶來的樂趣！🧶

你亦可走進 「種學織文2026：開放工作室」，參與一系列共創活動，探尋自然、紡織與藝術之間的連繫。🌼 你可以使用天然染料在布上共創圖案，或以原子印章創作屬於自己的紙本紋飾。🕹️ 現場更設有回收衣物立體裝置，讓你擺出不同舞姿；於指定時間，更可穿上特製鞋套，以天然染墨水在長布上留下舞步足印。💃

【’Weave and Shout!’ 🗣️ & Seed to Textile 2026: Open Studio 🌱】
This summer, CHAT transforms into exciting and creative space! The summer exhibition ’Weave and Shout!’ showcases works by Agus Nur Amal PM Toh, Chan Wai Lap and Slow Art Collective. The artists playfully explore the sources of everyday stress and invite visitors to relax and recharge through touch, weaving, role-play and laughter. 🧶

You can experiences a series of co-creation activities in Seed to Textile 2026: Open Studio, explore the connections between nature, textiles and art. 🌼Co-create patterns on fabric with Indian block printing and natural dyes, or use various pre-inked stamps to create unique motifs on paper as a memento to take home. 🕹️ The studio also features a three-dimensional patchwork installation, where visitors can pose as dancers. 💃 At designated times, you also encouraged to wear a pair of special overshoes and leave ink footprints on a piece of fabric laid out nearby.

Create patterns on fabric using woodblock stamps and natural dyes, or design your own patterns with worksheets and stamps inspired by textures and forms found throughout the space!

🧸’Snuggle & Stitch: Childhood Textiles of Hong Kong’
Rediscover Hong Kong childhood memories through textiles. Try the nostalgic games with your child such as five stones and cat’s cradle while exploring garments, toys and handmade dolls from the 1930s to the 2020s. Together, they reveal how textiles connect family, childhood and everyday life. 🎲

A baby decorated with protective imagery believed to keep harm at bay; Disney dolls that once was made in Hong Kong… 🧸 In the special display ‘Snuggle and Stitch: Childhood Textiles of Hong Kong’, you will discover childhood textile objects from Hong Kong spanning the 1930s to the 2020s, each carries memories of growing up in a different era.

Bring your family and friends and join a tour led by Bruce Li, curator of the special display, where he will share stories related to the precious items on view and gain insights into the curatorial journey behind the display. 🙌 You can also experience nostalgic games from yesteryear, and spend a delightful Mid-Autumn Festival holiday with loved ones while rediscovering the joy and wonder of childhood.

想親手試試鉤織？歡迎來到CHAT客廳參與 「意『暖』情迷」，免費自學鉤織。🌟 活動恆常開放，無需任何經驗，只要跟隨教學影片及書本指引，就可以由一針一線開始，慢慢編織出如杯墊大小的小布塊。🙌

12 September marks International Crochet Day. 🥰 Over the past year, CHAT has collaborated with different groups and organisations to host a range of crochet gatherings and workshops, inviting participants of all ages, genders and nationalities to experience the joy of crochet together.

Interested in trying crochet yourself? Come to CHAT Lounge and join ‘Hooked on Warmth!’ to enjoy a free self-learning crochet experience. This activity is open year-round, and no prior experience is needed. Simply follow the instructional videos and books provided, and stitch your way to creating small fabric squares!⁠ 🙌

You are welcome to take your piece home as a keepsake. If you wish, you may also make an extra piece and donate, helping to share this handmade warmth with others. 💖

你知道「多謝🙏」、「不知道🤷」、「麻雀🀄️」 的手語可以怎樣表達嗎？

逢星期日舉行的 #共融導賞之旅，由聾人及健聽導賞員共同帶領，以粵語及香港手語「雙語」形式，帶你從另一個角度發掘香港紡織工業的魅力！

在約45分鐘的導賞旅程中，你可以學習與紡織相關的簡單手語詞彙🧵，並透過生動有趣的互動方式，一起認識本地工業棉紡歷史，細聽前聾人工友的故事。

活動更設有觸感體驗，讓你親身感受棉紡物料的質感，沉浸於香港紡織工業昔日的輝煌歲月。✨

Do you know how to sign ‘thank you 🙏’, ‘I don’t know🤷 and ‘mahjong 🀄️’?

Join our Accessibility Tour, held every Sunday, and explore Hong Kong’s rich textile heritage through an experience led by Deaf and hearing docents in Cantonese and Hong Kong sign language! 🫶

During this 45-minute journey, you will learn to sign basic textile-related phrases, 🧵 and explore the hidden stories of industrial cotton spinning and former Deaf workers.

The tour also includes tactile experiences, allowing you to explore the textures of textile materials firsthand and immerse yourself in the golden era of Hong Kong's textile industry.✨
