The Workshop, held in 2015, 2016 and 2018, brought together experts and advocates in disability studies and disability inclusion for ideas, inspirations, exchanges and empowerment, based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Summer Workshop is composed of a series of day-time, interdisciplinary expert lectures, seminars and workshops on disability equality, based on
the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). It intends to serve the educational needs of academics, educators, professionals, policy makers, advocates as well as NGO and rights workers in the Greater China Area— Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland China. Our Conviction
The advancement of disability rights and equality, be it through law and policy reforms, advocacy, services or other means, should be principled and contextually relevant. In a globalized world where universal values meet with local cultures, there has to be a lot of learning, talks and understanding about principles, theories, practical strategies and local practices among the disability, academic, professional and policy communities, not only within a society, but also across societies facing similar concerns. We welcome participants who are working or have serious interest in the area of disability equality, either as NGO workers, advocates, academics (including senior undergraduate and graduate students), professionals (such as lawyers, educators, therapists and counsellors), workers at human rights/ equal opportunities institutions, as well as policy makers, legislators and their assistants, from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Mainland China, and beyond.
