On 12 October, members of the HK Achievers Toastmasters Club gathered for our first major milestone of the season-the Annual In-House Evaluation Contest.

15 dedicated members took the stage to demonstrate their active listening, realtime feedback, and critical thinking skills under pressure.

A strong evaluation contest relies on an exceptional foundation. Test Speaker Jacky Chiang delivered a raw, compelling speech detailing his personal journey through a high-demanding career transition-capturing the genuine ebbs, flows, and resilience required of ambitious young professionals today.

Following a strict 5-minute isolation period, each evaluator stepped up to deliver targeted feedback-balancing authentic appreciation with actionable areas for growth. What made the evening exceptional was the sheer diversity of executive styles on display: from data-driven, highly technical analyses to dynamic storytelling and creative analogies.

Huge congratulations to our top three evaluators, whose exceptional insight stood out in a remarkably competitive field:

🥇 Winner: Jennifer Cheng
🥈 1st Runner-Up: Ramya Narayanaswamy
🥉 2nd Runner-Up: Cindy Chan

Both Jennifer and Ramya will represent HK Achievers at the upcoming Area Contest as they forge their path toward the 2027 District 89 Hong Kong Conference!

Leadership & Gratitude
A seamless event of this scale requires precision behind the scenes. Heartfelt appreciation to Contest Chair Jordan MULHO AHANDA and Chief Judge Deborah YU for their flawless ex*****on and strict adherence to contest standards.

A special thank you to our guest, Vani, for her proactive and invaluable support during the event preparation!

To Guests: Join us for our next regular meeting on 2 November to see how we build confident communicators.

To Members: Prepare for an Member Exclusive Workshop featuring Donald Yee, Communications Expert, 6-time District contest winner (including Table Topics), and the first speaker from Hong Kong to grace the international stage at the World Championship of Public Speaking run-off contest!

Looking for a welcoming place to build confidence, sharpen your communication skills, and meet inspiring people? Hong Kong Achievers Toastmasters Club offers an energetic and supportive environment where every meeting brings fresh ideas, new connections, and opportunities to grow.

At the 5 October meeting, our new members from diverse backgrounds were warmly welcomed by their mentors and fellow members. The membership induction was chaired by Becky Leong and Jessie Ng, our Co-Vice Presidents of Membership, creating a meaningful start to their Toastmasters journey.

Ramya Narayanaswamy, our President captivated the audience with “Nothing But the Tooth.” Drawing on her experience as a dentist, she orchestrated a Q&A session, by first explaining the importance of oral health to our overall well being, common dental diseases and how to prevent them. This was followed by a very interactive Q&A session with the audience, offering us some free dental consultation! Another advantage of Toastmasters - you always have something new to learn!

The creative Table Topics session hosted by Evian Wong brought plenty of laughter and spontaneity. Members responded to imaginative prompts such as “Hilarious Excuse,” “Silly Comedian,” “Confused Boss,” “Speechless Night,” and “Mysterious Boss.” The session showed that impromptu speaking can be both fun and rewarding—even for first-time participants.

All speeches were warmly evaluated by our experienced evaluators, whose constructive feedback helps members grow, build confidence, and pursue continuous improvement.

Whether you are a guest exploring Toastmasters, an inactive member ready to reconnect, or an experienced speaker seeking fresh challenges, you will find a friendly community ready to welcome you.

Join us at our next regular meeting on 2 November 2026, Monday to meet our members, exchange ideas, and discover how much you can achieve when you step up and speak.

The fastest way to refine your speaking is through meaningful feedback.

Our September 28 meeting put speech evaluation front and centre, with Andrew Yeung serving as our workshop presenter and the night’s General Evaluator.

Andrew Yeung showed us how to make every second of feedback count.
His clever card method, mapping each 30-second segment of evaluation, is vivid and easy to reuse and the key is: beyond just simple praising.

Our speakers — Peter, William and Yuqi — stepped up with courage, sharing genuine stories and thoughtful delivery. Our evaluators Ramya, Jessie and Devi put these lessons into practice immediately. Our GE Andrew took this learning one step further.

He reviewed every speakers and facilitators’ performance with balance and clarity.
Beyond simple praise, he highlighted strengths and pointed out subtle refinements — practical tweaks everyone could use straight away.

This is the true power of Toastmasters evaluation.
It honours the bravery it takes to speak up.
It reveals blind spots we miss on our own.
It turns every speech into lasting progress.

Because that’s exactly what our club represents.
Different professions.
Different backgrounds.
Different generations.
Different viewpoints.

All coming together every Monday to learn and grow together.

Toastmasters is more than a public speaking club.
It’s a space where shared wisdom speeds up our growth.

Think about the most valuable feedback you've ever received.
It wasn't the feedback that praised you.
It was the feedback that helped you see something you couldn't see yourself.

Whether you're leading a team, coaching colleagues, presenting ideas, or helping others grow, effective feedback is one of the most valuable skills you can develop.

Join Andrew Yeung, for a practical workshop on giving feedback that creates real impact.

✅ Give feedback that sticks
✅ Spot strengths and blind spots
✅ Create change without creating conflict
✅ Strengthen your leadership and communication skills

What makes this workshop different?

You will see these techniques demonstrated live. Three speakers will deliver presentations, followed by three evaluators sharing their feedback. Andrew will then deconstruct both the speeches and the evaluations, showing in real time what works, what can be improved, and how powerful feedback creates genuine insight and growth.

You will not only learn the principles, you'll see them in action.
