從攝影到版畫🌅 為日常風景增添木刻的獨有紋理！

在「點止執印切釘——書的藝術」展覽中，藝術家劉家俊 Lau Ka Chun 的作品《兩個故事》，透過木刻版畫將照片複製，並釘裝成書冊展出。你或許會好奇，從攝影圖像到 #木刻版畫，當中經歷了怎樣的轉化過程？

「減版套色：木刻版畫與攝影」工作坊將由劉家俊擔任導師，結合照片與木刻版畫，並運用 #減版套色（ ）技法，親手雕刻木版，將照片的光影化為木刻版畫的點、線、面。
​
導師將介紹木刻特有的刀法和肌理，並透過數碼照片處理和圖像移印等核心技巧，引領大家將日常拍攝的照片，逐步轉譯為色彩層次豐富、具木刻獨特紋理的版畫作品！

From Photo to Print🌅 Enriching Everyday Landscapes with the Unique Texture of Woodcut!

At the exhibition 𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙊𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙮 – 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝘼𝙧𝙩, artist Jay Lau Ka-chun Lau Ka Chun presents “Two Stories”, in which photographs are reproduced through woodcut printmaking and bound into book form for display. You may wonder how a photographic image is transformed along the way into a woodcut print.

The 𝙈𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞-𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙍𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙩: 𝙒𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙘𝙪𝙩 & 𝙋𝙝𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙮 workshop, led by Jay Lau, brings together photography and woodblock printing through the reduction printing technique. Participants will carve their own woodblocks by hand, transforming the light and shadow of photographs into the dots, lines and planes of woodcut prints.

The instructor will introduce the distinctive carving techniques and textures of woodcut, while guiding participants through key processes such as digital image editing and image transfer. Step by step, everyday snapshots will be transformed into prints enriched with layered colour and the distinctive texture of woodcut!

「書寫」二字一向相連，有書便有寫。當中的「寫」——寫作，又是甚麼？
​
在作品《複瀉》中，詩人黃裕邦 Nicholas Wong 創作了484個以「Writing as」(「寫作作為」) 開首的短語，並透過絲網版畫和印章印刷，在複寫紙接連印上短句。
​
藉由散落的字詞和燈光，或明或晦的印刷效果，藝術家叩問人們確切定義字詞、指認事物的欲望，同時邀請觀者感受語言流動與溢瀉的狀態。

“Books” and “writing” have always been linked: where there is a book, there is writing. But what exactly is “writing”?
​
In his work “Logorrhoea”, poet Nicholas Wong Nicholas Wong created 484 phrases beginning with “Writing as”, and transferred the short lines onto carbon paper through screen printing and stamp printing.
​
Through scattered words and varying effects of light, the artist questions our desire to define and identify things with precision, while inviting viewers to experience language in its most fluid and abundant state.

A rare letterpress treasure is making a special appearance in 𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙊𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙮 – 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝘼𝙧𝙩!

In the book-printing process of the past, once the type had been set, heat-resistant paper was laid over the composed forme and then heated, pressed, and dried to create “flongs”, a paper mould, to keep the layout for future reprints.

The flongs on view in the exhibition comes from “Seasonal Recipes and Everyday Nutrition”, a popular health & wellness book printed in Sai Ying Pun in the 1960s. As this type of publication had a wide readership and was likely to be reprinted, the flongs saved the time and labour needed for resetting the type. We invite you to visit and appreciate its finely embossed textures ✧

書的形態有千萬種。本業為舞台燈光設計師的劉銘鏗（人稱神父），同時是一位紙藝藝術家，擅於以立體書與光影編織故事。在「點止執印切釘——書的藝術」展覽中，他將多本立體書重新組構為懸掛於展區中心的裝置，配合充滿舞台感的空間設計，讓作品在遠觀與近看之間展現不同層次。
​
裝置以鏤空透光設計，讓金句、成語與潮語等廣東話字句在展覽空間中折射。在現今社會中，話語的來往也許越見頻繁，人工智能又不斷生成文字，惟人與人之間的交流卻未必因此變得深入。作品藉由光線營造出眾聲喧嘩的景象，邀請觀者重新思考言語與溝通之間的關係。

Books can take on countless forms. Lau Ming-hang, better known as Sunfool, is a stage lighting designer and also a paper artist, known for weaving stories through pop-up books and light. In “Beyond the Ordinary – Contemporary Book Art”, he reconfigures several pop-up books into a suspended installation at the centre of the exhibition space, set against a stage-like spatial design that reveals different layers from both near and far.

The installation features a hollowed, light-permeable structure, allowing Cantonese proverbs, idioms and slang to refract throughout the gallery. In today’s world, words circulate more than ever, and artificial intelligence keeps generating text, yet communication between people does not necessarily become any deeper. Through light, the work creates a scene of overlapping voices and invites viewers to reconsider the relationship between language and communication.

𝙒𝙚’𝙧𝙚 𝙊𝙥𝙚𝙣! 𝘼 𝙇𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧’𝙨 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘿𝙖𝙮 invites you into the Open Press to explore a unique collection generously donated by retired master printers, offering a glimpse into the golden age of Hong Kong’s letterpress printing industry.

You will learn the fundamentals of letterpress printing, watch a vintage Heidelberg Windmill Press in action up close, and take part in a hands-on session using an Adana Printing Machine to create your own letterpress card.

Since 2014, when Mr. Lam On of Wing On Printing Press retired and entrusted us with his machines, movable type and archival materials, the preservation of letterpress printing has become a core mission. 「 #點止執印切釘——書的藝術」參展藝術家 #黃怡 晚宴暨分享會，已於五月底圓滿舉行！

黃怡以一系列虛構的活版印刷菜單與廣告參展，其中作品〈吳生吳太唔生唔得聯婚宴客〉形式仿照港式婚宴菜單，探討隱含在香港喜慶用語中的傳統文化。本次分享會因此選址酒樓，以沉浸式晚宴連結作品內外！

藝術家當晚與賓客共享佳餚，並分享她學習活版印藝的心得，又透過有獎問答遊戲，與大家反思語言與思想之間的有趣連結。每位賓客更獲贈特製活版菜單及活字朱古力等精美禮品～

香港版畫工作室年獎成立於2018年，旨在鼓勵年輕版畫人才。這獎項將為本地新晉版畫家提供駐留計劃、獎助金和相關支援，協助他們創作個人展覽。

自2022年起，香港版畫工作室研究學人計劃支持本地版畫家發展印藝相關研究或技術，致力推動版畫印刷技術的創新。

The HKOP Award in Printmaking was established in 2018 to encourage young printmaking talents. The award discovers emerging local printmakers and provides them with a residency, funding, and support for creating their solo exhibitions.
