Microwave微波 策動《In the Time of Hope 裂縫》:
Tower of Babel

The second phase of the project introduces a touring exhibit in the form of a suitcase — a symbolic, mobile exhibition conceived as both container and catalyst. Titled around the concept of Babel, the suitcase draws inspiration from the biblical story of the Tower of Babel, reflecting on communication breakdown and the fragmentation of shared understanding in contemporary society.
Written by Joel Kwong (鄺霏飛), created by Silver Cheung(張世宏), and technically integrated by Jason Lam (林志輝), the suitcase embodies the metaphor of Pandora's box. It suggests that once opened, emotions, misunderstandings, and unspoken tensions cannot simply be contained again. The form and content together interpret Babel not only as a historical or mythical event, but as an ongoing condition of our time - where language, technology, and perception both connect and divide us.

《In the Time of Hope 裂縫》企劃最終站: 《Artists with Tools 實驗修羅》

“In the Time of Hope: Artists with Tools” will be held on 18 -26 Apr at Hong Kong Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre.
Artists with Tools: Experimental Asura is not conceived as an exhibition in the conventional sense, but as a testing ground — a process in continuous transformation. It brings together artists and creators who use their chosen media as instruments: to reveal, to test, to transmute, and to open spaces where emotion and dialogue may dwell. Here, tools are not merely technical devices. They are extensions of feeling, methods of inquiry, gestures of care. Artists with Tools gathers these evolving stages together, presented as the final chapter of In the Time of Hope. Since 2024, Microwave has been exploring how the convergence of art and technology might open new ways of caring for emotional well-being. So now, we do not merely walk alongside one another, we indeed learn from light — to pass through fissures, to move across walls, and to keep, within the fracture.
Let’s hope for hope itself.

Microwave presents - In the Time of Hope

The project brings together multiple cross-disciplinary collaborations. Media artist Miu Ling Lam employs optics to reveal contexts that have been obscured or erased, and animation director and illustrator Florence Lee responds to emotional currents in short stories (developed from research with HKFYG) through hand-drawn works and tech specialist Jason Lam transforms collected emotional tracking data into screen-based works, allowing physiological fluctuations to shape visual rhythm. Last but not least, Hong Kong film art director and creator Silver Cheung produced a short film using artificial intelligence, exploring imagination and projection within technological environments towards the shared topic & concern.
These works did not emerge in isolation. Curator Joel Kwong — also known as writer Fei-fei Kwong — drew upon research conducted in collaboration with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) and wrote three short stories for the participating artists & creators. Addressing diaspora, deception, and the battleground of contemporary work life, these narratives explore emotional states and lived experiences, offering each artist an entry point — a shared emotional ground from which to begin. Each work appears across different platforms, engaging diverse audiences. The online platform includes podcasts and artist conversations, expanding ways of understanding the works and exploring how art and technology might express — and perhaps tend to — shared trauma and its aftermath.

Microwave presents - In the Time of Hope

《In the Time of HOPE》
In the Time of HOPE is not a declaration of naive optimism. If you have ever walked through a tunnel without visible end, you know that the only companion you truly have is yourself. What sustains you for a few more steps is not certainty, but a stubborn belief — that perhaps, just a little further on, there will be light. The Chinese subtitle – the Crack (裂縫) responds to this belief:
Where there is even the slightest opening, light can seep through.
