The Institution of Mechanical Engineers has a substantial membership base in Hong Kong, supported by the Institution's Hong Kong Branch which was formally launched in 1997. The Branch currently formed 6 Sub-committees with over 100 volunteers organizing events and activities for local members

🎉 The 14th Greater China Design Competition (GCDC) was successfully held on Saturday, 25 April 2026, at HKUST!

This year’s theme focused on a repeatable autonomous climbing system (External Pipe Climber), challenging teams to design and demonstrate robust, precise engineering solutions.

Engineering students in 9 teams from HKU, HKUST, IVE, SCUT, GCUT, and GDUT showcased impressive creativity through presentations and live demonstrations.

🥉 2nd Runner up: SCUT

👏 IMechE Hong Kong Branch successfully held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 13 May 2026. It provided an opportunity to review the Branch’s activities, celebrate key milestones, and discuss the ongoing commitment to supporting mechanical engineers across Hong Kong.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for a fantastic evening of celebration and connection.

Key Highlights:

Inspiring Keynote: A special thanks to our Guest of Honour, Dr Jacob KAM JP (Chairman of MTR Corporation), for his insightful speech on "Engineering the Smart Metropolis – AI and Strategic Opportunities for Hong Kong."

Honouring Leadership: We were proud to present the IMechE Headquarters-approved tailor-designed Chairman Badges to our past chairmen in recognition of their years of dedicated service.
