「香港肝癌基金會」是香港肝癌及腸胃癌基金會的前身(下稱“基金會”)，於2011年成立的非牟利機構，由一群負責診治及熱心研究肝癌的專業人士所組成的顧問委員會管理(下稱顧問團隊)。當時，我們致力促進不同的公眾教育活動和肝癌研究，以提升大眾對肝癌及其治療的認識。香港肝癌基金會亦希望能夠扶持肝癌患者及其家人，讓他們在抗癌路上不會感到孤單。

在營運逾兩年時間裏，於各個香港肝癌基金會舉辦的講座及分享會中，體會到肝癌病友除了對肝癌知識求知慾甚深外，對腸胃癌的資訊亦非常殷切。身為專業醫療團隊，深知肝癌與腸胃癌同屬消化系統的癌腫，三者關係非常密切。而患有腸胃癌的病友，癌腫通常會先擴散至肝臟，成為繼發性的肝癌；此外，2012年醫院管理局香港癌症資料統計中心顯示，大腸癌繼肺癌成為香港常見癌症及致命癌症的第二位。因此，專業醫生團隊認為有必要開拓新的領域，於是，在2014年11月決定增添腸胃癌的各種資訊，並於2015年將原有名稱轉變為「香港肝癌及腸胃癌基金會」，同時拓展腸胃肝的資訊，讓更多肝癌及腸胃癌的病人，能透過基金會獲得專業及實用的訊息，增加對治療的效用，這是專業醫療團隊一直持有的抱負。
