French May 法國五月 Established in 1993, French May is one of the largest cultural events in Asia.

With more than 120 programmes presented across two months, it has become an iconic part of Hong Kong’s cultural scene that attracts approximately 2 million visitors each year. The objectives of French May are to touch everything, to be everywhere and for everyone. To touch everything by showcasing the most diversified art forms: from heritage and contemporary arts, paintings and design, to classic

al music and hip-hop dance, cinema and new circus. To be everywhere by bringing performances to various venues and districts, including the unusual and unexpected: from cultural centres and shopping malls, to public spaces, the racecourse and Victoria Harbour. For everyone because the Festival aims to reach out to the entire community by developing educational programmes, talks, guided tours, workshops and masterclasses, including those that directly benefit the young and less-privileged. For 29 years, French May has been both truly international and distinctly local and wishes to contribute to the unique appeal of Asia’s World City. French May received the “Gold Award for Arts Promotion 2008” from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

1993年首辦的法國五月藝術節，是亞洲最大型的文化盛事之一。每年五至六月，法國五月均會於兩個月內舉辦超過120場文化活動，吸引逾一百萬人參與；在文化藝術發展蓬勃的香港，法國五月藝術節已是一項年度主要盛事。法國五月藝術節的目標是無所不包、無處不在、無眾不歡。

法國五月無所不包，展現最紛繁的藝術種類，從傳統到當代藝術、從繪畫到設計、從古典音樂到嘻哈街舞，從電影到馬戲，為觀眾搜羅最優秀的作品。

法國五月無處不在，將表演及展覽帶到不同地區與場所，從文化中心及大型商場、從公共空間到馬場以至維港等等，進駐最不尋常、最令人意想不到的地方。

法國五月無眾不歡，透過外展教育計劃、座談會、導賞團、工作坊及大師班，觸及不同社群，惠及年輕人及弱勢群體。

29年來，法國五月藝術節立足本地、放眼國際，配合香港的城市歷史及定位，為作為亞洲國際都會的香港，增添璀璨魅力。

2008年，香港藝術發展局頒發「藝術推廣獎」金獎予法國五月藝術節，表揚法國五月的藝術活動推廣成績。

🎨《香港賽馬會呈獻系列：邂逅蒙娜麗莎 · 文藝復興的再現》展覽圓滿結束

自今年五月開幕以來，展覽吸引來自本地、內地及海外的廣泛觀眾群，累計接待超過23萬人次 參觀，反應熱烈🎉

賽馬會社區拓展藝術計劃及香港文化博物館教育活動共吸引了超過2萬7千位參加者，透過舉辦多場免費公眾講座、電影放映、導賞服務、觸感體驗工作坊及全息投影DIY，加上一系列展覽錄像節目，讓大家全方位感受文藝復興的藝術之美。

法國五月由衷感謝每一位觀眾的熱情支持與參與，以及各界的鼎力支持，讓展覽得以順利舉行！

🎨 【The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Meet Mona Lisa & Portraying the Renaissance】 has officially come to a close

Since its opening in May, the exhibition has attracted a wide range of audiences from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and overseas, recording over 230,000 visits🎉

Through the Jockey Club Community Outreach & Arts Education Programmes and the special programmes of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, we have reached more than 27,000 participants through a series of free public talks, film screenings, guided tours, tactile experience workshops, and the Optical Theatre DIY activity, along with a series of exhibition videos - allowing ones to experience the beauty of Renaissance art from multiple perspectives.

French May would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to every visitor for your enthusiastic support and participation, as well as to all partners for their generous support in making this exhibition possible!

文藝復興肖像畫的多重意涵（下）

《香港賽馬會呈獻系列：邂逅蒙娜麗莎 · 文藝復興的再現》肖像畫系列短片迎來壓軸第二集！藝術史學家范懿莎博士將繼續帶領我們，探索文藝復興時期兩大藝術流派的風格碰撞，以及達文西如何以融合兩種手法並改變肖像畫歷史。

本集聚焦意大利與法蘭德斯畫風的對比：意大利藝術家崇尚古羅馬式的「純側面」理想化肖像；法蘭德斯則開創「四分之三側面」構圖，融入風景背景，甚至細緻描繪皺紋與紅血絲，極致追求寫實。

展覽精選的四幅大西洋手稿，見證達文西融合兩派之長 — 他以「暈塗法」（Sfumato）取代僵硬線條，在真實與理想間取得平衡。讓我們跟隨范博士，看達文西如何突破情感描繪的禁忌，賦予畫中人物永恆的靈魂。

The Multiple Meanings of Portraiture in the Renaissance (Part II)

The final episode of the portraiture short video series presented by “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Meet Mona Lisa & Portraying the Renaissance” is finally here! Art historian Dr. Isabelle Frank will continue to guide us through the stylistic clash between two major Renaissance art movements and explore how Leonardo da Vinci changed the history of portraiture by merging their techniques.

This episode focuses on the fascinating contrast between the Italian and Flemish arts styles: Italian artists favored the idealized "pure profile" inspired by ancient Rome, while the Flemish school pioneered the "three-quarter view," incorporating scenic backgrounds and capturing extreme realism, even down to wrinkles and bloodshot eyes.

The four pages of the Codex Atlanticus featured in this exhibition perfectly witness how Leonardo da Vinci masterfully blended these two traditions. Using the "Sfumato" technique instead of harsh lines, he struck a flawless balance between reality and idealism. Let’s join Dr. Frank to discover how Leonardo shattered traditional boundaries of emotional expression, bringing his subjects to life.

文藝復興肖像畫的多重意涵 （上）

《香港賽馬會呈獻系列：邂逅蒙娜麗莎 · 文藝復興的再現》十分榮幸能邀請藝術史學家范懿莎博士，為大家帶來一連兩集的系列短片。她將透過帶領我們穿越時空，探索文藝復興時期肖像畫的演變與重生。

在第一集中，范懿莎博士將由中世紀談起。當時肖像藝術幾近消失，取而代之的是高度公式化的宗教圖像。直到文藝復興時期，古典大理石雕塑與歷史文獻相繼出土，藝術家與權貴才重新點燃對肖像畫的狂熱。

展覽囊括了文藝復興時期多幅經典的肖像畫作，當中包括把贊助人巴黎主教畫進去的《受難圖》，以及身穿法蘭德斯富裕階層女性服飾的《抹大拉的馬利亞》。讓我們跟隨范懿莎博士的步伐，一同探索文藝復興時期的權貴如何遊走在「虔誠信仰」與「彰顯自我」的模糊界線上。

The Multiple Meanings of Portraiture in the Renaissance (Part I)

“The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Meet Mona Lisa & Portraying the Renaissance” is honored to invite art historian Dr. Isabelle Frank to present a two-part short video series. She will take us on a journey through time to explore the evolution and rebirth of Renaissance portraiture.

In the first episode, Dr. Frank will start from the Middle Ages, a time when the art of individual portraiture had nearly vanished, replaced by highly formulaic religious iconography. It wasn't until the Renaissance, with the unearthing of classical marble sculptures and historical texts, that artists and the elite reignited their passion for portraiture.

The exhibition features a diverse array of classic Renaissance portraits. Among them are The Crucifixion, which explicitly incorporates its patron, the Bishop of Paris, and Saint Mary Magdalene, in which the subject is attired in the luxurious clothing of the wealthy Flemish upper class. Let us follow in Dr. Frank's footsteps to explore how the Renaissance elite navigated the blurry boundary between "pious devotion" and "self-glorification.”

In response to the optical theatre featured in the ”Prelude: Entering the Enigma“ section of the exhibition, three signature exhibits have been adapted into animations📱✨ Through a DIY optical theatre model and animated projections from your smartphone, the art of the Renaissance can now be brought into your home!

The animations will be released in two phases in July at the exhibition entrance.

參加者將會參與創意「盲畫」活動，體驗視覺以外的感官參與， 隨後亦有分享環節交流創作心得。不論你想自己親身參與，定係想同小朋友一齊踏上多感官冒險之旅，都總有一場啱你！

French May Arts Festival is delighted to collaborate with Beyond Vision International (BVI), our Accessible Partner, to present two Tactile Experience Workshops Designed for the general public, these workshops offer multi-sensory experiences inspired by the theme of the Renaissance.

Participants will engage in creative blind drawing activities to engage with non-visual senses and share their artistic creations. Whether you are looking for a unique weekend activity for yourself or a magical multi-sensory adventure with your little ones, we have a session for you!
