【Art for Good 新加坡考察團 之 藝術．共融 齊頭並進】
Art for Good Singapore Study Tour: Art and Inclusion Moving Hand in Hand
由香港公益金支持，社聯主辦的Art for Good 新加坡考察團已於八月底順利完成行程 ! 考察團成員走訪新加坡不同藝術機構及青年領導組織，了解及學習當地以藝術推動社會發展的工作。
而行程其中一日的下午，考察團來到位於新加坡最繁忙的烏節路上的美羅百貨公司 – 為的不是購物，而是探訪ART:DIS ARTDIS 的期間限定小店 !
ART:DIS是一個致力於透過藝術創作與教育，為身心障礙者創造學習及生計機會的新加坡非營利慈善機構。他們服務任何年紀患有身體、感官及智力障礙的學生與藝術家，由專業藝術家為他們提供視覺藝術及表演藝術的訓練，為他們創造展示的平台，讓他們發揮才能，從而發展其維生的技能。ART:DIS近年亦在新加坡國家藝術理事會的支持下，連續幾年籌辦 Arts and Disability Forum，邀請區域內的同業同儕，共商藝術共融的未來。
當日ART:DIS 執行總監Ms Angela Tan 親自迎接考察團來訪，為成員分享機構日常的工作，以及營運上的困難。特別在需求日漸增多之下，機構如何應付，同時促進倡議工作。同場我們有幸見到兩位藝術家 Noah 和Vicki即席示範畫作及陶瓷，有不少來百貨公司購物的人都會駐足觀看，甚至即場買下他們的作品。
ART:DIS 的經驗就讓我們了解藝術及社會倡議同行的可能，其中包括以服務使用者為中心，發展他們的興趣及能力，同時將藝術探索提升至專業、轉化成商業生產，公開展示及教育，實際地讓大眾看到不同能力人士的專業、才能及技術，直接讓消費者支持，最終令服務使用者以自己的才能，達至經濟自立。ART:DIS亦長年與商業伙伴合作，展示了日常的商業模式中營運及持續發展，例如在百貨公司中營銷及推廣，讓消費者在消費的同時，了解機構的理念及工作。Angela 亦特別提到，社會服務同工在這些過程中擔當了很重要的角色，例如專業知識及前線經驗可以有效協助藝術家和學員溝通。
正如考察團題目 ”Art for Good” 所言，我們除了希望可以以藝術作為介入社會的方法，更希望可以達至長久、可持續的果效。考察團正在籌備分享會，如有興趣知道更多成員的學習所得，記得留意社聯消息 !
Supported by The Community Chest of Hong Kong and organized by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), Art for Good Singapore Study Tour successfully concluded its itinerary at the end of August! Members of the delegation visited various arts organizations and youth leadership groups in Singapore to learn about local efforts in driving social development through art.
On the afternoon of one of the tour days, the delegation visited Metro Paragon, located on Singapore's busiest Orchard Road—not for shopping, but to visit the pop-up store of ART:DIS!
ART:DIS dedicates to creating learning and livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities through artistic creation and education. Serving students and artists of all ages with physical, sensory, and intellectual disabilities, professional artists provide them with training in visual and performing arts. They also create platforms for them to showcase their talents, thereby developing skills for making a living. In recent years, with the support of the National Arts Council, ART:DIS has been organizing the Arts and Disability Forum, inviting regional peers to discuss the future of arts inclusion.
Ms. Angela Tan, Executive Director of ART:DIS, welcomed the delegation and shared the organization’s daily work and operational challenges—particularly how they cope with growing demand while simultaneously advancing advocacy efforts. The delegation were also fortunate to meet two artists, Noah and Vicki, giving live demonstrations of painting and ceramics. Many shoppers stopped to watch and even purchased their artwork on the spot.
The experience of ART:DIS demonstrated to us the possibilities of combining art with advocacy for social good. This includes taking a service-user-centered approach to foster their interests and abilities, while elevating artistic exploration to a professional level and transforming it into commercial production, public display, and education. This tangibly allows the public to see the professionalism, talents, and skills of individuals with different abilities, enabling consumers to support them directly so that service users can achieve economic independence through their own talents.
ART:DIS has also collaborated long-term with commercial partners to build daily business models that operate sustainably, such as marketing and promotion within department stores, allowing consumers to learn about the organization’s vision and work while shopping. Angela particularly noted that social service practitioners play a crucial role in these processes, with their professional knowledge and frontline experience can effectively facilitate communication between artists and students.
As the study tour's title "Art for Good" suggests, beyond using art as a method of social intervention, we hope to achieve long-lasting and sustainable impact. The delegation is currently preparing a report back session, stay tuned for more updates!
