💬We completed the final course “𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭-𝐮𝐩 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚”, of our 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 on 30 May.

Mr Tony Yung, Chief Commercial Officer, Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre, shared a structured session exploring the role of a start-up founder, and the challenges involved. The session underscored the strategic advantages of engaging with the academic environment as a platform for exploration, resource access, and early-stage development. Audience members were encouraged to think ahead about how these foundations could support their future entrepreneurial pursuits.

On 12 May 2026, we were proud to co-host, together with the Department for Business and Trade of the British Consulate-General Hong Kong, and with the support of Invest Hong Kong, the “Life Sciences Entrepreneurship Conference: UK-HK Perspectives on Innovation and Collaboration”.

It was a fantastic opportunity to spotlight the strengths and landscapes of both regions' life sciences sectors. The HKLSS Life Sciences Talent Survey 2026 is here – with a record 425 responses from students and young professionals. Over 80% are determined to stay in life sciences or biotech after graduation, and Hong Kong remains their top choice for internships, especially when programs offer clear career development, skills training, and professional networks.

At the same time, respondents value mentorship, global exposure, and one-stop job platforms like Biotech Talent () to help them navigate opportunities at every stage. HKLSS will continue to strengthen talent development and career support to match this level of energy and ambition.

Co-hosted by the Hong Kong Life Sciences Society and the Department for Business and Trade of the British Consulate-General Hong Kong, with the support of Invest Hong Kong, the “Life Sciences Entrepreneurship Conference: UK-HK Perspectives on Innovation and Collaboration”, was successfully held this afternoon.
 
The event brought together over 200 attendees, including leading experts, entrepreneurs, and innovators from the UK and Hong Kong, to explore the current landscape and future trends of life sciences entrepreneurship.
 
We were honoured to have Mr Chris Woodward, Director General, Trade and Investment, British Consulate-General Hong Kong, to deliver the Opening Remarks, together with Welcome Remarks from our Executive Director, Prof Ken Wong.
 
The programme was both exciting and rewarding, beginning with a Keynote Address on “The Importance of Hong Kong as a Life Sciences Hub”. With a focus on AI‑driven drug discovery, diagnostics and medical devices, and next‑generation therapeutics, the Conference featured three insightful Panels and a Fireside Chat session. Moderated by Hong Kong-based investors and entrepreneurs, the panels explored the evolving life sciences ecosystems in both the UK and Hong Kong, highlighting opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and investment that transcend distance. Our diverse lineup of speakers, comprising UK company representatives, HKLSS advisors, and esteemed local experts, all generously shared their perspectives, enriching discussions and reinforcing the strong and growing ties between the two regions.
 
To conclude the Conference, Mr Andy Wong, Head of Innovation & Technology and Life & Health Sciences from Invest Hong Kong, wrapped up the afternoon with thoughtful Closing Remarks.
 
A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers, panellists, and moderators for their valuable insights and to everyone who joined us – we hope many meaningful connections were made!
