學問乃天下之公器。踏入21世紀，香港社會高速發展，互聯網的通行亦使知識流播更形快捷。然而，網上、電子媒體的發達亦變相令學習過程趨近單向，社會長期缺乏學術溝通的橋樑。再者，大學學者醉心學術研究，普羅大眾則追求實用，兩者之間亦缺少連繫和對話。演講會的成立，正是希望擔當連繫的渠道，透過舉辦面對面的演講與分享，促成知識的雙向對話。
