Rainbow of Hong Kong was founded on World AIDS Day, 1st December, 1998. We are a Le***an, Gay, Bis*xual and Transgender (LGBT) organization concerned with the quality of life in the LGBT community. Rainbow of Hong Kong Limited is a non-profit Charitable Institution exempt from tax under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance, Hong Kong. To promote equal opportunities and s*x education.
2. To broaden the living perspectives of grass root communities and to improve their quality of life.
3. To assist volunteers in their initiatives to organize and provide diverse services and activities in response to community needs. With the efforts of our volunteer teams, Rainbow of Hong Kong conducts over 100 activities every year including discussion groups, forums, workshops, creating art, movies, sports, camping, barbeques, picnics, karaoke and music concerts. Services provided include blood testing, counseling, a hotline, education, outreach, HIV intervention, legal support, and domestic violence emergency support. Our services are popular throughout the community with about 200 people visiting the centre every week. Our Advocacy
Rainbow of Hong Kong has a long history of advocacy to improve the quality of life for s*xual minorities. Its actions and influence have been reported in Newsweek Magazine, September 2001 and on the BBC News, March 2002. As the only LGBT Community Centre in Hong Kong, we have become a major resource supporting q***r movements. Meetings of coalitions such as, Hong Kong Pride Parade, International Day Against Homophobia HK (IDAHO), LGBT Against Domestic Violence Alliance and For My Colours to name a few, often take place in our centre. A Diversity within the Community
In the spirit of the Rainbow Flag, Rainbow of Hong Kong is involved in a wide spectrum of social issues in the LGBT community. Independent organizations such as the Women’s Coalition of Hong Kong (A le***an and women’s s*xual minority organization) and CD Family (A transgender organization) have gatherings at the Center regularly. Rainbow of Hong Kong is home to a broad collection of subgroups, such as Le***ans, Teenagers, Student groups, Mature Guys, Bears, B**M People, Bis*xuals, S*x Workers, People Living with HIV, Qu**rs with Disabilities and Christian LGBT’s. Our Unique Library
At our LGBT Community Centre, we maintain a unique Q***r Library, created for the purpose of supporting and strengthening q***r culture. Q***r literature, AIDS literature and information from around the world are held here. Many of our visitors which include people from LGBT communities, students, teachers, social workers, parents, guests from overseas and members of the general public make use of our library. Every month, representatives from Rainbow of Hong Kong are invited to give speeches and workshops at different universities in Hong Kong. We also receive calls from students at high schools and universities requesting interviews and referrals for their homework, school projects and thesis. Interaction with Overseas Organizations
We frequently receive visitors from China, Taiwan, Australia, Canada, U.S.A., U.K, Thailand, Vietnam and Russia etc. When we meet with guests from sister organizations in other countries we exchange information which provides a mutual resource of ideas for improving our services. This is one way we keep our services updated to better serve the community, locally and globally. Members of Q***r and AIDS organizations from China have visited our Community Centre, frequently receiving instruction and training on organizing and providing services. Rainbow of Hong Kong together with its volunteer team strive and fight for equal rights and to provide services for building a stronger community. We need the support of donations to meet our goals. We are committed to working together and contributing ourselves to better the future of the community. Contact info:
