[08 NOV. 2024] Interviewed by Hong Kong Economic Times on urban greenery of Hong Kong.

(They told me it would be published both in written and in video form, but I didn’t know until the shooting day the 20-minutes pre-recording would be released 100% without any editing. Oh dear~ so if I said something wrong, or went blank, it would all be published…. as if it was live on air)

Lets backtrack a little… [14 DEC 2024] Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM) ‘s NBSx (Nature-base Express) event at the really cool venue - KuAsh Theatre.

President Nor Atiah Ismail and representatives explained the role of NBS from mitigating climate impacts on ecosystems to restoring natural habitats to enhancing well-being of people. Fruitful sharing and exchange among landscape architects, designers, arborists, ecologists from policy level to planning to implementation. Great pleasure to have joined as speaker/ panelist.

Marked on the same day the Open Day of the Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards 2025 (MLAA15), an important event for Malaysian and Asian LA community. Great honour to be a part of the legacy this year.

[16-11-2024] 出席建造業議會「零碳小勇士」獎章計劃嘉許禮以及由香港園境師學會「幸福營造」 園境組件設計比賽簡介會。 經過兩代 Mi-Landscape遊樂設施在零碳天地展示後，今年學會決定舉辦設計比賽，歡迎大專院校與中學學生參與，集思廣益以外亦有助推廣園境設計如何融合科技與合成組裝技術，增進市民幸福感。

感謝房屋局、建造業議會作為協作單位，以及多個教育機構和專業團體作為支持單位。亦感謝出席簡介會的講者Chloe Chen, Eric Ho, Alex Chui.

[IFLA Asia-Pacific Region Council Meeting at Singapore 🇸🇬]

This year I have the honour to serve as a juror of the prestigious IFLA AAPME Awards 2024 comprising of IFLA Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Middle East regions. The award showcases excellence in landscape design and planning that address present and future global challenges.

I joined the council meeting together with Vice-President Benni Pong and Chairlady of our Function & Events Committee Ceci Tan (Rose).

I reported in the meeting works of the IFLA APR Climate Change and Biodiversity Working Group, and updates of the IFLA World Congress cm IFLA APR Council Meeting to be held in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2026.

I also joined the Professional Practice and Policy Forum 2024 as a panelist on the Climate Change Panel together with ZHENG Xiaodi from CSHLA and President Srilalitha Gopalakrishnan of SILA, and moderated by Vic Dul-loog from PALA. Benni moderated another panel on “Emerging Professionals”. The forum was meticulously curated by the Chairlady of Professional Practice and Policy Committee Pamela Pagana and Chairlady of Landscape Without Borders Norman Brito.

After conclusion of the Council meeting Terrence Tan and Damian Tang has kindly invited us to the Singapore Yacht Club for dinner gathering, where we had such a good time mingling. A pity I couldn’t join the glamorous gala dinner on the following day due to another function, but I am sure Benni and Rose had a wonderful time there 🥂 Thank you for the planning and hospitality from SILA!

［2024-11-09] 出席11月9-11號中國風景園林學會年會，今年在深圳光明區舉行。因公務關係，未能出席11月8日的展覽開幕和11月9日的會議開幕（由副會長Yin-Lun Chanan代表，他同時為本屆Keynote Speaker之一）。主場館為號稱「光明之眼」的光明文化藝術中心。 本屆會議主題為「百姓園林 共享風景」，全國與海外風景園林專業與相關行業共有約1800人參加。

到達時已經傍晚，得主辦方悉心安排，到虹橋公園，與左小平秘書長及一眾國際風景園林師聯合會代表吃晚飯。飯後夜遊虹橋公園，這個佔地四百多公頃的公園於2021年建成，由一條約8公里長的虹橋連接，有多個林區、水體、也包括數個國際比賽級別的極限運動場地。

[COP16 UN Convention on Biological Diversity] Biodiversity forms the basis of life on Earth, which human is a part of. Planetary boundary framework defines biodiversity as one of nine boundaries that help regulate the planet’s operating system, some suggest that human has already crossed the threshold. While there are different understanding to where the “tipping point” is (or was!), all agree that human activities are continuing to dangerously destabilize life on Earth.

As landscape architect, it’s our daily work to intervene with our built-environment. It ought to be part of our responsibilities to ensure everything we do is nature-positive, and we can’t do that alone. Through collaboration, education, and actions, we face the challenges together.

So much learned and so much more to learn.

[COP16 UN Convention on Biological Diversity] Apart from catching up with the programmes, also happy to have talked to the other delegates from Hong Kong, where I met Simon Chan and Flora Mok from 漁農自然護理署 Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, and also Kitty Tam from Civic Exchange 思匯政策研究所 (didn’t take a photo with her though). We exchanged on the latest developments on NBSAP, WCP system and latest initiatives in our individual capacity, and all agree that, after COP16, we need to keep the dialogue and the momentum. Of course when I got the chance to sit down between session, I cannot go without enjoying a cup of the world famous Colombia coffee, really rich aroma!

[COP16 UN Covention on Biological Diversity] 3rd day at Cali I entered the blue-zone, joined “from Montreal to Cali - building bridges to operate transformative changes” where the COP16 President and Minister of Colombia’s Environment and Sustainable Development have the opening. Then joined the panel on IUCN tools, knowledge and networks for biodiversity knowledge management, capacity-building and technical and scientific cooperation. overwhelmed with all the programmes but intriguingly informative and engaging.

First two days of COP16 UN Convention of Biological Diversity at the BIOPOLIS. Concerted effort by a number of international organizations on a more biodiverse future.

IFLA World President Bruno Marques was the first keynote speaker. He explained that biodiversity is essential for healthy and resilient cities. It provides ecosystem services, mitigates climate change, and enhances human well-being. Under the imminent threat of global biodiversity loss, landscape architects are uniquely positioned to make a difference by designing with nature, creating urban spaces that support a thriving ecosystem.

Inspired also by the several seasoned professionals, academics, researchers. Landscape architects can lead the way in implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework through innovative solutions, but collaboration is key. We will continue to collaborate with experts, communities, and international organizations.
