Our Founding Clinical Director, Dr. Wai-Yung Lee has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious 2025 Visionary Impact Award by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).​

This special recognition honors three globally influential female pioneers whose groundbreaking contributions have profoundly shaped the field of systemic family therapy. Dr. Lee shares this distinction with esteemed colleagues Dr. Celia Falicov and Dr. Judith Landau, highlighting a landmark celebration of women’s leadership in the profession.

Dr. Lee’s visionary work has been instrumental in advancing culturally sensitive approaches to family therapy, particularly within Asian and cross-cultural contexts. Her innovative research and clinical practice—drawing from her roles as Founding President of the Asian Academy of Family Therapy, Clinical Director of the Aitia Family Institute in Shanghai, and long-time collaborator with Salvador Minuchin—have inspired generations of therapists worldwide.

This award marks a significant milestone for greater Asian representation and diversity in the global family therapy community, underscoring the enduring impact of inclusive, systemic perspectives on mental health and relational healing.

Our team was honored to be invited to present at a landmark two-day symposium in Antwerp—the first collaboration of its kind between institutes from Belgium and the Netherlands.

Day one gathered nearly 200 participants for vibrant exchange; day two deepened the dialogue with a focused masterclass. Grateful for the warm reception and meaningful connections.

𝐀𝐀𝐅𝐓 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

The AAFT 10th Annual Conference concluded successfully in Okinawa, Japan, on October 11, 2025.

This year, we were honored to welcome nearly 200 participants from around the world, including Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Singapore, the USA, France, and Australia. We are especially proud to have had participants from Thailand, Bangladesh, India, and Nepal join us this year, further enriching our Asian identity and enhancing regional representation.

Throughout the conference, we engaged in meaningful conversations on themes central to our clinical practice—exploring the role of systemic family therapy and the evolving definition of therapist competence. Harlene’s presentation showcased the collaborative approach, while Maurizio and Wai Yung reminded us that conflict, when thoughtfully embraced, can be a necessary source of growth. Their work also underscored a vital truth in systemic therapy: we are not outside observers — we are integral parts of the system.

This year’s program also featured both the World Network Meeting and the Asian Network Meeting, each fostering deeper regional collaboration and strengthening global connections.

A heartfelt thank you to all who contributed to this milestone event. Your presence, perspectives, and passion made it truly memorable.

The 𝟿𝚝𝚑 𝙰𝚗𝚗𝚞𝚊𝚕 𝙰𝙰𝙵𝚃 𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚏𝚎𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚌𝚎 wrapped up successfully on Sunday, with 900 participants joining us from around the world. It was a fantastic opportunity for active knowledge exchange, with discussions focused on the theme of “family” in our rapidly evolving society. Thank you to everyone who participated! We look forward to seeing you all in Okinawa next year!
