APVRS is in Vienna this week for the 26th EURETINA Congress.

We value our long-standing relationship and collaboration with EURETINA euretina. That partnership continues to grow through the APVRS sessions on the EURETINA program, including our dedicated consensus session in World Retina. Many of our faculty are presenting this week, sharing international consensus on important retinal diseases and exchanging ideas with colleagues from across the world.

It is a pleasure to be part of the meeting. We look forward to even deeper collaboration in the years ahead.

The APVRS session at has successfully concluded.

The APVRS, working with leading vitreoretinal experts from other international ophthalmic institutes, has recently published consensus statements and guidelines on important retinal diseases. Each was developed by an international panel of at least 15 experts, beginning with a systematic review of the evidence and refined through a modified Delphi process until agreement was reached.

It was a privilege to have Prof. Andrew Chang, APVRS Secretary-General, and Prof. Paisan Ruamviboonsuk, APVRS Vice-President, chair the session.
During the session, Prof. Timothy Lai spoke on neovascular AMD, Prof. Seung-Young Yu on diabetic macular edema, Prof. Fumi Gomi on central serous chorioretinopathy, and Prof. Mariko Sasaki on pachydrusen, before Prof. Andrew Chang closed with the consensus on macular hole surgery.

These statements matter because they turn scattered evidence into practical guidance for diagnosis and treatment, across countries and health systems.

We are grateful to the speakers and to everyone who joined us. APVRS will keep building this work with our national societies and international partners, so that consensus becomes better care for patients.

Thank you to EURETINA (euretina) for inviting Prof. Andrew Chang, Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society, to join the panel at The Future of Retina: A Global Leadership Forum.

It was an honour to take part in a discussion of the issues that will shape retina care over the next decade - equity of access, the role of artificial intelligence, the research questions we still need to ask, and how we train the next generation.

Grateful to all panellists. The conversation does not end in Vienna. APVRS will keep working with colleagues worldwide so that, when we meet again, more patients can share in the progress we are aiming for.

🔵 APVRS Session at EURETINA 2026

euretina Thank you for inviting us — it is an honour to bring the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS) to EURETINA 2026.

If you are attending in Vienna, we warmly invite you to join our APVRS Session on Saturday, October 3, chaired by Prof. Paisan Ruamviboonsuk, Prof. Andrew Chang and and featuring Prof. Timothy Lai, Prof. Seung-Young Yu, Prof. Gomi Fumi and Prof. Mariko Sasaki — a focused symposium on the consensus statements and guidelines that APVRS has developed in collaboration with international ophthalmic institutes.

🔍What to expect:

APVRS, together with partner international institutes, has recently issued several consensus statements and guidelines for important retinal diseases. Each was established by an international expert panel of at least 15 panelists from different countries and territories, beginning with a systematic literature search to identify relevant studies. A core group reviewed and prepared the first draft, organised into categories such as disease entity, diagnosis, management, and future development.

This symposium presents selected published consensus on medical and surgical retinal diseases — a practical, evidence-based overview of where international expert agreement now stands.

A night of celebration, community, and looking ahead.* 🥂✨

The APVRS Gala Dinner brought the 19th Congress to a spectacular close at the Australian Outback Spectacular—an unforgettable evening of world-class entertainment, delicious food, and the warm camaraderie that defines our retina community.

The highlight of the night? The official handover ceremony. As we celebrated the incredible success of on the Gold Coast, we also looked forward to the future. The APVRS flag was officially passed to our colleagues in Malaysia, who will host the 20th APVRS Congress on December 3 - 5, 2027🇲🇾!

A huge thank you to everyone who made this Congress so memorable - our speakers, committee members, delegates and sponsors. The energy, the science, and the connections we’ve built here will carry us forward until we meet again in Malaysia next year. 🚀
