Preventative health protects livelihoods, strengthens families and reduces avoidable crises 💪🏻

An enormous THANK YOU to Matilda International Hospital who specially opened up their Central Clinic yesterday - a Sunday, the only day off for most Migrant Domestic Workers (MDW) - to provide FREE biometric screening, professionally delivered by a dedicated and passionate team from the Filipino Nurses Association Hong Kong and wonderfully supported by Sehat - Hong Kong - ensuring access for both our Filipino and Indonesian community.

By improving access to health education, screening and services, MDWs can stay healthy, continue supporting their own families, and care for the families who rely on them in Hong Kong. When their health thrives, everyone benefits.

Together with our partners, we look forward to exploring further opportunities to provide greater access to healthcare services for those who care for so many in our city. Because behind every act of care is a person who deserves care too.

Monday is MomDay at PathFinders! 💛

Today we’re celebrating 🌻: Leah (PathFinders' Ambassador, Migrant Domestic Worker)

"I am 39 years old and I have 2 children. My son is now 18 years old and my daughter is 14 years old. I have worked as a Migrant Domestic Worker in the Middle East for 7 years and in Hong Kong for 4 years.

I've been a widow for almost 13 years. When my husband passed away, my younger child was only 10 months old and my elder one was 4 years old.

It hurt to leave my children with my parents when they were so little. But I had to fight the sadness and loneliness, not avoid my responsibility to them; but work hard for their future and help my parents since they are also my children's parents while I am away.

As a single mom, you really can't help but worry about your children. Now that they are grown up, you are still thankful as communication is easier because of technology.

With love, respect, open communication, honesty and being true to your children, they will understand why you left them to work abroad."

"I want to share my story as a single mother with two children - a boy and a girl. My children are currently in vocational high school.

I feel an overwhelming sense of longing and worry. The longing I carry inside feels so heavy. I worry because now that my children have become teenagers, I cannot be there by their side every day, nor can I watch them grow up.

I long to gather with my children and family. I miss their playful affection and their chatter. But I must stay strong, because everything I am going through right now is all for our shared future."

Pendaftaran awal wajib dilakukan melalui tautan berikut: https://www.matilda.org/mini-health-check-online-registration-lkf

Monday is MomDay at PathFinders! 💛

Today we’re celebrating 🌻: Jeziel (PathFinders' Ambassador, Migrant Domestic Worker)

💭 “They were still young when I left them - the elder one was 5 and the younger one was 3 years old. Now, they are in their teens already.”

Jeziel’s journey began after her marriage ended. She shared: “I chose to be a migrant worker for myself. I was broken and depressed at that time and I wanted to move on from being broken.” Thus, she decided to go abroad.

Jeziel stated that her biggest challenge was that she couldn't be with her 2 kids when they needed her the most: “Being a mother far away from your own kids isn't easy. You are not around when they are not feeling well, you are not with them on special occasions, and your presence isn’t there when they need a mother to attend their activities. And even though we manage to talk, it hits different.”

❤️ “I’m not a perfect mother, but I am trying my best to be a good provider for them.”

Despite the distance and her past challenges, Jeziel’s top priority is always her boys: “My only wish is for them to finish university so we can be united as a family one day with no limitations and no distance at all.”

✍️“One thing I’ve learned is that being broken into pieces is not the end of opportunities - it is just the beginning. I'm thankful now that I have become a strong and independent mother.”

Monday is MomDay at PathFinders! 💛

Today we’re celebrating 🌻: Irene (Migrant Domestic Worker)

💭 “Sometimes I feel sad and lonely being so far away from my son, but I can handle it because I know I have to work.”

Irene first came to Hong Kong in July of 2015, making this year her eleventh one here. She decided to work abroad to provide a better life and future for her son, but being a migrant mother comes with huge sacrifices. After separating from her husband, Irene became the sole provider for her child, leaving him in the care of her mother back in the Philippines.

The distance became even harder during the COVID-19 pandemic, when travel restrictions prevented her from returning home for years.

Despite the loneliness, Irene pushes forward. She knows that staying strong and looking after her health are essential to providing for her now 16-year-old son.

She holds onto a clear dream for the future: “After my son finishes his schooling, I plan to go back, take a rest, and open my own small business, perhaps selling rice and school supplies.”

✏️💌 A message from Denise, the child of Irene’s employer (aged 18):

“Irene has been there for the majority of my life, from primary to university. She watched me go through phases of my life more than anyone else has as she’s always at home, preparing meals and caring for my family. She’s an irreplaceable part of my family and I wouldn’t choose anyone else over her.

For her to care so much for my family but not be able to see hers nearly as often is heartbreaking to think about, especially the sacrifices she makes. I’m forever grateful to Irene for that.”

Today is 🇮🇩 Indonesia’s Children’s Day (Hari Anak Nasional). ✨

In 🇭🇰 Hong Kong, thousands of Indonesian migrant domestic workers (MDWs) quietly hold our city’s fabric of care together.

Every day, they pour ❤️ love,⏳ patience and 💪 energy into raising our children - giving parents the peace of mind to work. Yet many of these trusted caregivers are mothers themselves, nurturing our little ones while living miles away from their own.

At PathFinders, we believe in caring for those who care for us. We ensure that if an MDW faces an unplanned pregnancy or crisis, she and her child are protected, educated, and supported.💛🌻💛

🧵🪡💙 Help us strengthen this fabric of care. This Children’s Day, consider donating to PathFinders - www.pathfinders.org.hk/donate/

Your contribution helps provide essential education, community support, and timely intervention for MDW mothers before situations escalate into crises.

Every bit helps us protect the children of those who protect ours. ✨🫶✨
