Monday is MomDay at PathFinders! 💛

Today we’re celebrating 🌻: Claire Ann Labuguen (Migrant Domestic Worker, Former PathFinders' Client)

We were delighted to bump into our former client Claire and her 5 year old daughter during our special Mother's Day outreach on 10 May!

Claire was our client in 2020 when she got pregnant. She was on a valid MDW visa when she received PathFinders' assistance - which included medical fee waiver, essential supplies like diapers and formula milk. We supported her throughout her pregnancy until she gave birth.

It's a joy to see Claire now happy and thriving with her family - her partner and her child - in Hong Kong. She is currently still a MDW, living-in with her employer, while her daughter lives with her father.

Claire is looking forward to completing her current employment contract; after which her partner will be her visa sponsor and they can all live together as a family. Claire also has 2 other children, 14 and 9 years old, who are in the Philippines. She connects with them regularly on social media.

Today we’re celebrating 🌻: Mel & Melody, Migrant Domestic Workers

Our Ambassadors met Mel and Melody during our special Mother's Day outreach on 10 May. Both are moms of teenage children and they have been working in Hong Kong for more than a decade. Video calls and chats are how they remain connected with their children.

What are their thoughts about being a working mom who is far away from their children?

🌻Mel - "Being a working mom is fulfilling as I am able to provide for my children's basic needs and education."

🌻Melody - "It is a sacrifice, but it is worth it. There are of course difficulties. But I don't complain because I am a mother."

🙏💛🙏THANK YOU American Club Foundation for inviting us, your Grants+ charity partner, to be at your Memorial Day event on Saturday!

It made our day to see many smiling faces enjoying the games at our table - including the traditional Indonesian 🇮🇩 congklak game led by our Indonesian Ambassador Inayah. 🌻

We were also happy to share more about our work at PathFinders. Looking forward to the next event! ✨🫶✨

Today is World Menstrual Health Day! 🩸❤️🩸

💛We were SO delighted to have Zoe Chan, co-founder of Free Periods HK .hk, run a 2-hour fun and creative workshop for our Ambassadors on Monday! 🌻

🫶✨🫶Besides grasping invaluable information about the menstrual cycle and self-care tips, the day's highlight was certainly making our own menstrual bracelets and "Periods Care Guide" zines! 🤩

A menstrual bracelet is a global symbol for menstruation. It allows us to track our period. Wearing it also demonstrates support for breaking period taboos.

Shout out 🙌to our Ambassadors:
🌻Edina for sharing her story behind her menstrual bracelet - and how listening to music help her feel her best during her period. 🎶🎧🎵
🌻Marmi for emphasising the importance of seeking medical attention if we are experiencing period symptoms like severe cramps and heavy bleeding. 🩺👩🏻‍⚕️🏥

Part 2/2

"Today is exactly a year since I left home to work here in Hong Kong. I have 3 daughters. They are 17, 15 and 8 years old.

It is hard to be a working mom far away from home. But I want to inspire my daughters so I work with my heart. I call them every day through video calls. I always ask them if they are ok, and how things are in school."

Did you know❓
🌻Many Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) arrive in 🇭🇰 Hong Kong with low or no awareness about s*x, their bodies and reproductive health?

🇵🇭🇮🇩🇹🇭🇳🇵🇱🇰A number of MDWs come from families and communities who don't discuss s*x or have access to sound information - making them vulnerable to manipulation, love scams, s*xual violence and unwanted pregnancies.

May is SexEd for All Month. Our Ambassador Anik Puji Lestari who just 🎓graduated from Resolve Foundation Hong Kong Community Changemaker Fellowship on Sunday, has a 👓vision to change that. She plans to use what she has learned to develop a light-hearted and engaging s*x education programme for MDWs. 💡

Way to go, Anik - we can't wait to work alongside you to make that dream a reality! ✨🫶✨

Monday is MomDay at PathFinders! 💛

Today we’re celebrating 🌻: Marivic, Migrant Domestic Worker (MDW)

Part 1/2

Our Ambassadors met Marivic during our special Mother's Day outreach on 10 May. Marivic was sitting on a bench at the promenade between Sheung Wan Pier and Sai Ying Pun; when we engaged her with our resource card and a special MaMaMia card - hand-drawn by our Ambassador Elizabeth.

Marivic, a mom, could relate to the drawing on the MaMaMia card and was moved by it. To her, it symbolised the care of migrant mothers to their children across the miles. Many mothers leave their children back home to work overseas - not by choice but out of necessity - to build a house and fund their children's education.

Thank you, Marivic, for creating brighter futures for your children and family! 💛

🫶🙏🫶 Shout out to Ways Out Hong Kong for sponsoring the lovely food waste jewellery to our Ambassadors and MDW community. Our heartfelt appreciation to our Social Work intern for leading the meaningful MaMaMia project too!
