BLACK BOX WRITERS’ SERIES (SPRING 2026) – EMMA PEI YIN ✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Black Box Writers’ Series (Spring 2026) on 6 March. The session was a collaboration with the Hong Kong International Literary Festival (HKILF). At HKU Black Box, Australian-Chinese author Emma Pei Yin discussed her debut novel, When Sleeping Women Wake.

In conversation with the series convenor, Emma spoke about chosen familial bonds and unheard voices. She discussed how, in writing, relationships between characters are formed not only through major gestures or dramatic turning points but also through the small, accumulated moments that give a story its texture. She also shared her experience working with editors from different countries.

We welcome everyone from our School and beyond to join future events in the Series!

The BLACK BOX WRITERS’ SERIES celebrates creative voices and craft, with a focus on writers and works with local connections. Part of The HKU Guild: Home for the Creative Arts.
