Outdoor education programmes can inspire lifelong care and appreciation of nature, but our programmes can also damage the very environments that we seek to promote and protect.
戶外教育計劃能夠激發人們對自然的終身關懷和欣賞，但我們的計劃也可能損害我們希望推廣和保護的環境。

So, to what standards should we hold ourselves to, to ensure what we do is sustainable for future generations to also enjoy?
那麼，我們應該遵循什麼標準，以確保我們的行為對未來世代的享受是可持續的呢？

As stewards to the natural world, HKOLA believes that OE providers have a responsibility to operate in a sustainable manner, minimise the environmental impact of their programmes and promote conservation to their participants. As a result, HKOLA have begun creating a benchmark standard for providers to voluntarily follow.
作為自然界的管理者，香港戶外領袖協會（HKOLA）相信，戶外教育提供者有責任以可持續的方式運作，最小化他們計劃對環境的影響，並向參與者推廣保育。因此，HKOLA 已開始創建一個基準標準，供提供者自願遵循。

The balance between accessing nature and minimising impact is a tricky one and requires discussion, reflection and compromise. Therefore, we invite you to comment and give suggestions on these new standards.

The HK Outdoor Learning Association are proud to be supporting the International Nature Connectedness and Environmental Education Conference 2025.

OWL HK have done a great job drawing together experts from across the world and a fantastic range of local environmental NGOs and outdoor educators. We look forward to this showcase of the great work going on to get our young people outside and caring about our natural world.

Call for 7 minute x 7 slides sessions!

What's your passion? What's your project? Could you share it in just 7 minutes?

A twist on the PechaKucha (Japanese for "chit-chat") presentations format, we are calling for short, to-the-point sessions from passionate presenters.

On the theme "small actions, BIG IMPACTS" and using only 7 slides with 1 minute each, the 7x7 is a platform for community members to share:

- a moving story of a pivotal moment in your outdoor leader life;
- tools and ideas for others (how to avoid burnout, or teach contours, or HK animals);
- a call to action, raise awareness of an issue or the great work of a local NGO;
- academic research or ongoing projects;
- your favourite place, obscure hobby, outdoor reading list.
- a philosophical pondering or ask a big question (What is outdoor learning for?)

We invite submissions through our website and will work with you on the format.

HK Outdoor Learning Conference 2025 is launched!

We are looking for passionate, knowledgeable speakers to deliver sessions at the HK Outdoor Learning Conference 2025.

Based on the theme of "small actions, big impact!" we are looking for inspiring stories and strategies to help attendees leave with the new tools and mindset to improve their outdoor learning practice and organisations.

It could be a story of a change you made, a call to action, or practical tools that have worked for you and you want to share.

The 2-day event is on 29th - 30th November 2025 at the beautifully located Breakthrough Youth Village in Sha Tin.

This event, hosted by HKU Digital Arboretum, will be an opportunity to explore the relationship between planting and trees and teaching and learning. Through a mix of TED-style talks, information tables and activities, the event hopes to celebrate how trees can inspire learning about nature.

Thanks to everyone that joined our HKOLA meetup hike today around Braemar Hill. The lovely side order of was particularly fun and should have been expected when you gather a group of outdoor educators!

These hikes and get-together help build a community of supportive educators that can bounce ideas of each other, give encouragement, and share advice between seasoned practitioners and people looking to get into the industry.
