What is Ocean Acification and why does it matter?
Since Industrialisation, we have witnessed that the ocean surface water pH has decreased from 8.2 to 8.1, this on average is an increase in acidity of ∼26% this is caused by the absorption of CO2 from the atmosphere into the ocean. Many life processes involve chemical reactions which are extremely sensitive to small changes in pH.
There are 2 key impacts of ocean acidification. Firstly, the drop in pH levels leads to acidification that can deteriorate the shells of organisms, dissolution. Secondly, these changes in the biochemistry of the ocean leads to less carbonate ions, these ions are essential to marine creatures and their ability to produce new shells called calcification.

At the Youth Ocean Alliance we believe in the power of youth and their ability to catalyse change and instill change in each and every one of us. Where we lack in experience and knowledge we make up for it with our fearlessness and drive.

Our Youth Ocean Alliance World Ocean Day Summit last August was huge success thanks the work of our Youth Volunteer Team.

We are proud to share their contributions to the Youth Ocean Alliance as well as use this opportunity to acknowledge the calibre of their entrepreneurial work.

We are so proud of you guys, and can't wait to see you and the impact you have grow.

Environmental Conservation calls for collective action. The Youth Ocean Alliance aims to bridge the gap between the young and older generations while highlighting the importance of individual actions. Bimonthly virtual talks have transformed into a forum through which activists, artists, scientists and all sorts of ocean ambassadors come together to discuss and analyse current and upcoming ocean solutions. The start of a global ocean conservation movement begins here.
Bringing together Hong Kong's most committed and determined ocean ambassadors to raise awareness, discuss ocean challenges and means to address them as well as encourage and create opportunities for the public to contribute and adapt their lifestyles in favour of the seas.

We now aim to target a global audience of ocean enthusiasts and stem upstream collective action. Over the next few weeks we hope to share the important messages from our ocean warriors with the rest of the world!
