[Youth Mediation Paves the Way Forward, Rule of Law Shapes the Future]
Youth development thrives on diverse learning experiences, and the cultivation of leadership and the rule of law is equally indispensable.
Ms Joyce Cheng, Council Member of The Law Society of Hong Kong ("the Law Society"), attended the Launch Ceremony of the Greater Bay Area Youth Mediation Training Centre (the “Centre”) today (15 August 2026) on behalf of the Law Society, joining representatives from the legal profession and distinguished guests in witnessing this important milestone in advancing youth mediation development. Established jointly by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Leadership Institute and HKFYG School of Continuing Education, the Centre serves as a professional platform for young people across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (“GBA”). As one of the supporting organisations, the Law Society is pleased to see the Centre promote mediation culture and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms through training, exchanges and industry collaboration, while nurturing a new generation of rule of law and mediation talent equipped with professional knowledge, practical skills and an international outlook, contributing to the development of the rule of law and social harmony in the GBA.
Mediation is more than a means of resolving disputes. It embodies the spirit of respect, rational communication and consensus-building. As an international legal and dispute resolution services centre, Hong Kong has been actively promoting a culture of mediation in recent years. The establishment of the headquarters of the International Organization for Mediation in Hong Kong further reinforces the city's unique role as an international hub for mediation.
Nurturing young people has always been one of the Law Society's key missions. Since its launch in 2009, the Teen Talk programme has engaged more than 19,000 young people from over 520 schools. In addition, initiatives such as the GBA Study Tour and Teen Talk Mentorship Programme continue to connect with young people, encouraging them to understand the law, care for society, broaden their horizons, and develop the knowledge, capabilities and positive values needed for the future.
The rule of law is a cornerstone of Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability. As new opportunities arise from the development of the GBA and the Northern Metropolis, demand for efficient, professional and forward-looking dispute resolution services is expected to continue growing. The Law Society looks forward to working hand in hand with stakeholders across the community to support youth development and legal education, cultivate more young talent with a strong commitment to the rule of law, an international outlook and a collaborative mindset, and inject fresh impetus into the development of Hong Kong, the Nation and the wider region.
