Life must never be humiliated. Cruelty is never entertainment.
The recent suspected animal-abuse incident has shocked and saddened the community. While legal responsibility must be determined through due process, one principle is clear: animal cruelty must never be excused, minimised or dismissed as a prank.
The Government should strengthen enforcement, impose penalties with real deterrent effect, and improve reporting, investigation, intervention and follow-up mechanisms. Life education must begin early. Children must learn that vulnerability is not an invitation to bully, animals are not toys, and true strength lies in restraint, empathy and protection.
Parents also carry a serious responsibility. Raising a child means teaching boundaries, accountability and respect for life. If adults are unwilling to teach even basic empathy, they should not bring a child into the world lightly. Having a child is a choice; raising one well is a duty.
Not every person who abuses an animal will go on to harm people. However, violence against a vulnerable life can reveal a serious lack of empathy. If left unchecked, such behaviour may escalate and eventually harm the wider community—even those closest to the offender.
Education must start early, enforcement must be firm, and punishment must genuinely deter. Every life deserves kindness. Those who harm the vulnerable must answer for their choices.
Consequences may be delayed, but they do not disappear.
