Last Sunday, staff volunteers and their family members from Sun Hung Kai & Co. Limited and its subsidiaries Sun Hung Kai Credit Limited and United Asia Finance Ltd. participated in an oyster string hotel workshop at Middle Island, Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, the regatta venue for Hong Kong Race Week (27 January – 1 February 2026).

SHK & Co. is honoured to partner with the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) again this year as the title sponsor of 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. The Oyster String Hotel Workshop forms part of the Sailors for the Sea’s 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝘀 program, for which we have achieved the highest level of accreditation - Platinum Level Certification over the past few years.

Led by Dr. Thea Bradford, Postdoctoral Fellow at the City University of Hong Kong’s State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health, the session educated volunteers on marine ecology and conservation.

Through hands-on activity, volunteers gained practical insight into how these structures promote marine biodiversity.
Two new joiners from SHK & Co.’s Special Situations and Structured Credit team participated in the event and shared their reflections afterward.

Anthony So: “As new members of the SHK family, this event was a meaningful introduction to the firm’s values — Inspired, Agile, Teamwork. Rolling up our sleeves to help restore biodiversity along the seawall was a powerful, hands-on experience. We’re grateful for the chance to make a tangible difference and look forward to being part of more initiatives like this.”

Jaydon Luk: “Taking part in this workshop was a great opportunity to connect with colleagues while contributing to a meaningful local initiative. Inspired by the perspective of our award winning SHK Scallywag racing team, it was eye-opening to see how small actions such as preparing habitats along the seawall can support Hong Kong’s marine ecosystem. I am glad to be part of a firm that actively supports environmental stewardship in ways that create real and lasting impact.”

Last Sunday, staff volunteers and their family members from Sun Hung Kai & Co. Limited, and its subsidiaries Sun Hung Kai Credit Limited and United Asia Finance Ltd. (YES UA), participated in an 𝗲𝗰𝗼-𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 organized by 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (長春社). The event took place in the connected agricultural freshwater wetland of 𝗛𝗼 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗴, a site of profound ecological and cultural significance.

Featuring diverse and contiguous farmlands, wetland farms, streams, and marshes, Ho Sheung Heung provides an ideal habitat for local wildlife and various bird species — including the endangered Yellow-breasted Bunting — as well as amphibians and insects. By participating in the harvest, volunteers directly contributed to sustaining the wetland, preserving the tradition of paddy rice farming, and supporting the consumption of locally produced food to reduce Hong Kong’s carbon footprint.

During the event, volunteers gained valuable insights into rice paddy ecology and eco-farming practices. After a safety briefing, the team engaged in hands-on rice harvesting process, enabling corporate volunteers to directly contribute to the conservation of this agricultural ecological landscape, which serves as an important habitat for globally endangered species.

Marco Wong, Head of Operations at SHK & Co., said, “This was a unique and educational experience, especially for our children. For city kids, this is often their first chance to even see a rice frond, let alone touch one, before it arrives in their bowl. It’s particularly meaningful that this takes place in Ho Sheung Heung, an area so rich in Hong Kong's natural and cultural heritage. This hands-on harvesting not only connected us to the land but also allowed us to contribute directly to preserving a centuries-old tradition, supporting sustainable agriculture, and enhancing local biodiversity. At SHK & Co., we are committed to initiatives that protect our environment and support our community for future generations.”

Last Sunday, over forty staff volunteers and their family members from 𝗦𝘂𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝗶 & 𝗖𝗼. (Sun Hung Kai & Co), and its subsidiaries 𝗦𝘂𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝗶 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁, and 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (YES UA) . participated in a volunteering 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗰𝗼-𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 organized by WWF Hong Kong at the 𝗛𝗼𝗶 𝗛𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲, a marine educational and research facility situated within the protected areas of Sai Kung West Country Park and Hoi Ha Marine Park in Hong Kong.

During the Eco-tour, volunteers participated in an immersive educational experience aimed at enhancing their understanding of Hong Kong’s rich marine environment and coral ecosystems. The day began with a talk on the diverse coral species found in Hong Kong, which is home to over 5,900 marine species and has more coral varieties than the Caribbean. Despite this impressive biodiversity, only 5% of Hong Kong’s waters are officially protected, leaving these delicate ecosystems vulnerable to climate change, pollution, and overfishing.

Participants visited coral nursery tanks at the laboratory to learn about WWF’s efforts to save threatened corals. Acting as citizen scientists, volunteers assisted researchers by collecting essential air and seawater data, contributing to ongoing studies that support habitat restoration and marine biodiversity. The experience culminated in an unforgettable trip aboard Hong Kong’s largest glass-bottom boat, where everyone observed vibrant marine life in Hoi Ha Wan. Through these hands-on activities, volunteers raised awareness about the urgent challenges facing Hong Kong’s marine environments and deepened their appreciation for conservation, inspiring others in the community to take proactive steps toward protecting these vital ecosystems.

Samantha Che, Head of People and Culture at SHK & Co., remarked after the volunteering tour, “We are excited to collaborate with WWF-Hong Kong for the Coral Exploration Eco-tour at Hoi Ha Wan. As a company headquartered in Hong Kong, a remarkable city of islands surrounded by stunning seas — sailing and safeguarding marine life resonate deeply with us. This experience has allowed our colleagues and families not only to enjoy our beautiful waters but also to play an active role in preserving the unique ocean habitats that define Hong Kong. At SHK & Co., we recognizing that collective action is essential in our journey to safeguard our precious marine environment for future generations.”
