| Crafts on Peel Fellow Spotlight — Master Qiu Qiu-Lan x Lumamiling |
We are delighted to welcome our new Crafts Fellows: Master Qiu Qiu Lan, a deeply respected keeper of the Taroko weaving tradition based in Hualien, Taiwan; And Lumamiling (黑色雋永Lumamiling), a craft collective founded in 2022 by Paiwan and Rukai artisans from Pingtung, Taiwan.

Master Qiu Qiu Lan began weaving from a young age and has dedicated herself fully to the craft since 1993. Inspired by nature and everyday life, she designs and creates homeware such as quilts, carpets, and wedding decorations. Since 2023, she has shared her skills through her local community‘s sustainable development plan, offering ramie weaving and fabric-making experiences to promote cultural tourism from her hometown in Hualien’s Mingli Village.

Founded in 2022, Lumamiling is a collective of Paiwan and Rukai artisans from Pingtung. Working primarily with the bark fibre of Taiwan‘s native paper mulberry tree, they craft lighting, home objects, furniture, and spatial installations by harvesting, stripping the bark, beating, dyeing, and reconstructing the fibre. The collective draws inspiration from community life and the natural environment, exploring how traditional craft continues and transforms in contemporary life.

Through our Crafts Fellowship Programme, Lumamiling journeyed to Hualien to visit Master Qiu Qiu Lan, learning the art of ramie weaving and deepening their understanding and appreciation of plant-based fibres. Stay tuned for Fibre crafts from their indigenous traditions, which will soon be on view at Crafts on Peel.

飄雅活藝很高興歡迎我們的工藝伙伴組合——來自花蓮、深受敬重的太魯閣族織造工藝傳承者邱秋蘭老師，以及來自屏東、由排灣族與魯凱族工藝創作者於二〇二二年共同創立的黑色雋永 (黑色雋永Lumamiling) 。

邱秋蘭老師自幼開始接觸編織，一九九三年起全心投入此工藝。她的靈感多源自自然環境與日常生活，並以此創作被毯、地毯及婚禮裝飾等家居用品。自二〇二三年起，她透過部落永續發展計畫分享其技藝，以苧麻織造與布料製作體驗推動文化觀光，在家鄉花蓮萬榮鄉明利部落延續其工藝實踐。

黑色雋永成立於二〇二二年，由來自屏東的排灣族與魯凱族工藝創作者共同組成。以台灣原生構樹樹皮纖維為主要媒材，透過採集、剝皮、敲打、染色、纖維重組等工藝技法，創作燈具、家飾、家具與空間裝置作品。團隊從部落生活與自然環境中汲取靈感，探索傳統工藝在當代生活中的延續與轉化。

透過「工藝研修計畫」，黑色雋永前往花蓮拜訪邱秋蘭老師，學習苧麻編織技藝並提升對植物纖維的體悟與理解。來自多個原住民傳統的纖維工藝即將於飄雅活藝展出，敬請期待。

| Recap — Crafts on Peel at Homo Faber 2026 |
That’s a wrap! Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light has officially concluded. A huge thank you to Homo Faber () for the incredible opportunity to showcase Hong Kong talent on a global stage and for facilitating vital discussions on preserving craftsmanship in the modern age.

Inspired by the Venetian lagoon’s archipelago, British artist Es Devlin invited visitors to explore a narrative that unites +700 works by +500 craft artists from across the world, each an island of talent and skill within the wider waters of human talent.

We’re especially proud of Kammy Wong (), Leo Wong (), and Inkgo Lam () - our Crafts Fellows, who participated in the exhibition as exhibiting artists and demonstrators. What a sight to see their works among so many others!

As part of this year’s Homo Faber Summit, Crafts on Peel’s Creative Director, Penelope Luk, spoke at a panel alongside wonderful leaders, sharing insights on supporting traditional craftsmanship today.

圓滿落幕！ 威尼斯國際工藝雙年展 Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light 已正式閉幕。衷心感謝 Homo Faber（）提供寶貴機會，讓香港工藝登上國際舞台，並促成了一系列關於當代工藝傳承的重要對話。

英國藝術家 Es Devlin 以威尼斯潟湖群島為靈感，邀請觀眾走進一場匯聚全球逾五百位工藝家、超過七百件作品的敘事旅程——每位工藝家如同汪洋中的島嶼，各自綻放才華與技藝。

我們尤其為飄雅活藝的工藝伙伴感到驕傲——黃錦敏（）、王俊賢（）和林嘉裕（）以參展工藝家及示範工藝家的身份參與展覽。看見他們的作品與世界各地的工藝相映生輝，實在令人讚嘆！

作為今屆 Homo Faber 高峰會的一環，飄雅活藝創意總監陸詠沁 Penelope 亦與多位傑出領袖同台對談，互相分享彼此對支持傳統工藝的洞見。

Our special event Coffee & Crafts brought together specialty coffee and contemporary craft under one roof. Thank you to Carence for his passionate and inspiring sharing. Seasoned coffee roaster Carence Ng () presented “Summer Dew,” a summer special created for Crafts on Peel’s audience — bright acidity, gentle tea undertones, and delicately silky foam — while Takeshi Fujii’s handmade copper drip pot () reminded us that the vessel itself is part of the ritual.

Both coffee and craft are acts of experiencing a maker’s aesthetics — the choices behind every roast, every hammer mark, every pour. Let craft become part of how we live, elevating the world we experience.

Coffee and craft may seem worlds apart, yet both demand a deep understanding of material, technique, and touch. We are delighted to invite Carence Ng, co-founder of Reyach Coffee Roastery (Coffee Roastery | SCA Course | SCA Diploma Program) and seasoned coffee roaster, to present an exclusive experience during the “Creative Cross-Pollination: The Future of Crafts” exhibition.

As the current Chairman of the Speciality Coffee Association of Hong Kong (SCAHK) with over twenty years of experience, Carence has created a summer special for Crafts on Peel called “Summer Dew.” Bright acidity, gentle tea undertones, and delicately silky foam come together in a refreshing yet layered drink.

After the tasting, participants will join our private guided tour to explore work by seven cross-regional and -generational groups of artisans. From making specialty coffee to contemporary craft, all at 11 Peel Street.

The circle — symbolises contentment and perfection, unity and harmony in Eastern culture.

This Mid-Autumn Festival, we have selected nine circle-inspired works incubated by Crafts on Peel: from the gentle rotation of bamboo in Angus Ting’s Moon Halo, the luminous curves of Tuck Chong Sum Kee Bamboo Steamer Company & Lawrence Ting’s Swirly, the precise interlacing of Chen Yung Sheng’s Circular Weave — Double Wheeling, forty-two copper dishes adorning Crystal Liew & Takeshi Fujii’s Ebb & Flow, the radiant surface of Damian Boylan’s Heliocentrism, the philosophical folds of Gamzar’s Yuen, the moonlit scroll of Tamotsu Nishimoto & Mimmy Tjia’s Kaguya, the meditative weave of Tamotsu Nishimoto’s Teppachi Morikago, to the playful dots of Ricky Cheung, Karen Aruba & Andypoll Chan’s Mahjong Wanderlust.

Nine works, nine circles — symbolising togetherness and lasting harmony.

「圓」在東方文化裡寓意美滿、統一、團結與和諧。

我們特別從飄雅活藝孕育的作品中精選了九件與圓相關的作品——從丁科竣《小滿毛月》竹片的輕旋、德昌森記蒸籠及丁樂融《漩渦》的流光弧線、陳詠笙《輪口編–雙輪口》的精密交織、劉宛馨與藤井健四十二件銅皿點綴的《竹影銅光》、Damian Boylan《日心說》的炙熱光澤、金澤《圓》的哲思摺疊、西本有與謝旻蒑《輝夜》的月下卷軸、西本有《鐵鉢盛籠》的沉靜編織，到張誠忠師傅、張凱欣及陳漱石《巧雀奇緣》筒子的圓點巧思。

九件作品，九個圓——寓意長長久久，和和合合。

Round two, complete! Thank you to everyone who came to our special event - Private Guided Tour and Galvanised Iron Craft Demonstration.

Thank you Naam Yu (Louud 摟打 | 白鐵工藝), who returned to not only demonstrate the essential steps in galvanised iron crafting, but also inspire the audience with his vision in combining traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design.

We are honoured to share that our Crafts Fellow Inkgo Lam (Inkgo Lam 林嘉裕 Bamboo Artist) has been invited to participate in Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light (HOMO FABER) in Venice. Through Crafts on Peel, the Homo Faber team became acquainted with Inkgo’s craft practice. With recognition and support from various parties, she was invited to bring Hong Kong’s bamboo craftsmanship to the international stage through Bamboo Sculpting: A Dialogue of Past & Present — a live craft demonstration presented within A ROOTED ASCENT.
