Animal rescuer Kent Luk Ka-chit, founder of Paws Guardian Rescue Shelter, says about 4,000 dogs are registered under his name and has urged the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department not to kill healthy, unchipped strays for administrative convenience after the suspected fatal dog attack in Yuen Long.

Have you ridden an elephant in Indonesia?
You cannot anymore.
See the man leading the elephant?
He is carrying a cruel sharp metal stick.
May be you never noticed it but that’s how they control the poor animal.
Look back at your old pictures- oh yes the man was carrying that stick.

Indonesia has enacted a nationwide ban on elephant riding across all conservation centres, safari parks, and zoos, establishing itself as the first country in Asia to prohibit the practice on a national scale.

Issued by the Ministry of Forestry’s Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation, the binding directive requires tourism facilities to phase out rides in favor of observation-only, educational wildlife experiences or risk having their operating permits revoked.

Following the order, major venues—including Bali Zoo and Mason Elephant Park—have officially halted elephant rides to align with improved animal welfare standards.

The policy shift responds to decades of evidence highlighting the physical and psychological harm inflicted on captive elephants, including spinal and foot injuries from heavy saddles, confinement in small enclosures, and abusive training methods used to force compliance.

By transitioning away from direct-contact entertainment, Indonesian conservation institutions aim to allow elephants to engage in natural behaviors—such as foraging, bathing, and herd socialization—while offering visitors responsible eco-tourism alternatives centered on habitat education and ethical observation.

Further coverage of the landmark policy is detailed by World Animal Protection and TEMPO.CO.

Urgent appeal about the adored animals from the lovely owner who adored all her babies.
There are some cats who need at least a foster for a while?
Please help share or consider fostering one cat!
Their heavenly mother will be sending her love

10/8 Update: ⚠️ Need experienced persons with feral, scared cats who need to be left alone to de-stress and recover. No interaction possible - a room to themselves

WE NEED FUNDS TO BE ABLE TO SAVE ANY OF THE CATS!

Several kind people have offered to foster cats short term, but all of the cats will need to be checked by a vet and found forever homes. HKDR don't have any spare funds to be able to do this, so we're going to have to ask for donations to cover the health check and probably boarding until homes can be found.

PLEASE HELP BY DONATING AT www.hongkongdogrescue.com/donate/

All donations over $100 are eligible for tax receipts

‼️URGENT APPEAL: Help Needed for 18 Cats
We are scheduled to pick up the two HKDR dogs (whose owner had passed away suddenly) this Tuesday, but AFCD is insisting that we take 18 cats at the same time.
Our facility is designed exclusively for dogs, and we do not have the space, equipment, or resources to care for cats. We urgently need local cat rescue organizations or fosters who can take in these 18 cats—or even a few of them. Unfortunately we don’t have information on their gender, age, health etc, and this is literally a LIFE SAVING operation to get the cats safely out of AFCD so they can be assessed properly.
“Returning” the cats to AFCD is our absolute last resort, and we desperately want to avoid it.
PLEASE SHARE this with any local cat rescues, fosters, or contacts who might be able to step in and help!

The 18 cats—along with dogs Mercurio and Giove—tragically lost their owner and home all at once. Please send help.

If anyone can help any of them please email

Please help if you are able, the wonderful Kirsten’s as they need foster homes, and assistance for their sudden move!

🆘URGENT🆘

We've just been notified that our cat sanctuary of 5 years is about to undergo extensive renovations, lasting 120 days.

The entire building will be surrounded by scaffolding, and both internal and external pipes will be replaced. This means neither the inside nor outside spaces can be used.

We were notified only three days ago. After meeting with management and government officials, we realised the ongoing noise, workmen coming and going, dust, and disruption will severely impact our cats. In short, they cannot stay.

We have until July 16th to relocate 8 cats. But where? We must pack up, clean and hand over the premises by July 29th or 30th.

The cats in need are on our
- Cat Sanctuary page - Leo, Val, Nosey, Kelvin, Gogo, Kate (https://kirstenszoo.com/animal_cat/cat-sanctuary/)
- Adoption page - Mary & Luna (https://kirstenszoo.com/animal_cat/cats/cats-awaiting-adoption/)

We're looking for premises in or around Sai Ying Pun or Sheung Wan, as well as foster homes for our friendlier cats.

Once we find new premises, we'll also need help transporting the cats, packing up, and moving everything we can from the old place. We'll also need financial assistance to help cover transport, a rental deposit, and other relocation costs.

We're also seeking legal advice regarding compensation for the work we recently carried out to improve the premises for our cats. Had we been given proper notice instead of just a few days, we would never have invested in those improvements.

If you can help in any way, please contact us today. Time is not on our side.

Foster / Adopt - complete the form on our website. Email [email protected] / WhatsApp me 5595 1933.

Thank you in advance,
Kirsten - Kirsten's Zoo
