The Writer’s Toolbox 4.0 is finally here!

Migrant Writers of Hong Kong

We warmly invite you to join us for an exciting new series of creative workshops. Together, we will dive deep into creative expression by navigating the rich topics of food, culture, scriptwriting, film and zine making.

Whether you are a seasoned storyteller or picking up a pen for the very first time, this welcoming space is designed for you. These workshops are specifically crafted to offer a supportive community that amplifies the unique voices and lived experiences of migrant domestic workers. Through the power of writing and diverse multimedia creativity, your stories will take center stage.

Participants will explore how food and culture shape our identities, learn the foundations of scriptwriting, and gain hands-on skills in filmmaking and zine creation. It is a unique opportunity to learn new skills, connect with fellow writers, and share your perspective with the world.

This meaningful project is made possible through collaboration and community solidarity. Preventative health protects livelihoods, strengthens families and reduces avoidable crises 💪🏻

An enormous THANK YOU to Matilda International Hospital who specially opened up their Central Clinic on Sunday - the only day off for most Migrant Domestic Workers (MDW) - to provide FREE biometric screening, wonderfully supported by the Filipino Nurses Association Hong Kong and Peduli Sehat - Hong Kong - ensuring access for both our Filipino and Indonesian community.

By improving access to health education, screening and services, MDWs can stay healthy, continue supporting their own families, and care for the families who rely on them in Hong Kong. When their health thrives, everyone benefits.

Together with our partners, we look forward to exploring further opportunities to provide greater access to healthcare services for those who care for so many in our city. Because behind every act of care is a person who deserves care too.

🌻𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 - 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐞 🌻
Margie Mendoza, also known as Margie, joined PathFinders as an Ambassador in 2024. For more than three years, Margie often felt invisible in her daily life among other Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs). Her shy personality made her hesitant to initiate conversations with new people. However, everything changed when she began actively participating in our outreach and workshops. Margie joined PathFinders with a simple mission: to learn something new. She first learned about PathFinders through a workshop at HKU. At that time, her goal was to make her days off more productive, as she felt bored of being home all the time. Several other migrant workers also shared positive comments about PathFinders, especially the support it provided for migrant workers experiencing pregnancy. From there, Margie was intrigued and thought it would be really nice for her to be part of the community.
With simple resource cards, Margie began going to the streets to reach others. During her first outreach experience, the recipient of the card smiled and thanked her. That small moment sparked a new spirit within Margie.
However, her journey wasn't always smooth. There were days when her greetings were met with cold responses, leaving her feeling rejected. But Margie slowly learned not to be discouraged by those negative feelings. She kept on reminding herself, saying, "It's okay; I can do it next time." Every interaction, whether positive or not, built her resilience.
Over time, Margie became more confident. She began to recognize familiar faces within her community, and conversations flowed easily. They shared both joyful moments and hardships. It was then that Margie realized that many people hide many different hardships behind their smiles.
While conducting outreach, Margie met a woman terrified because her phone had been hacked by her employer. She also heard stories of hunger and inadequate living conditions. As Margie listened intently to their stories, she realized the importance of being there for her fellow migrant workers, even if just simply by listening.
The outreach experience transformed Margie from a shy observer into an active contributor to her community. Her journey wasn't just about distributing resource cards, but also about supporting fellow migrant workers facing various challenges.
As she grew, Margie learned that outreach is a two-way street. As she reached out to others, her heart also grew with love, resilience, and togetherness. Margie's story is not just about her, but also about the collective power of her community to continue to connect, strengthen, and ignite hope.

Selamat memasuki musim panas
Sungguh musim yang luar biasa dan penuh aksi nyata! Selama tiga bulan terakhir, komunitas kami tumbuh menjadi lebih kuat, lebih bijak, dan makin terhubung. 👭 Kami secara resmi menyambut para ambasador baru berbahasa Indonesia maupun Inggris (termasuk tim hari Sabtu!), memulai kemitraan baru yang penuh semangat dengan OWWA, serta mengadakan penjangkauan interaktif dari Sheung Wan hingga Kai Tak!
Bersama-sama, kami telah membahas topik-topik penting—mulai dari hak-hak maternitas, kesadaran tentang tinggal melebihi batas izin tinggal (overstaying), kesetaraan gender, hingga dukungan sebaya, serta mendobrak tabu seputar kesehatan menstruasi di Hari Kesehatan Menstruasi. Baik saat terhubung melalui poster Canva yang kreatif maupun berbagi cerita kehidupan nyata di taman, para ambasador terus memberdayakan, menginspirasi, dan saling menguatkan setiap harinya! 💪💜

What an incredible, action-packed season it has been! Over the past three months, our community has grown stronger, wiser, and more connected. 👭 We officially welcomed brand new Indonesian and English-speaking Ambassadors (including our Saturday team!), launched an exciting new partnership with OWWA, and took on interactive outreach from Sheung Wan to Kai Tak!
Together, we’ve tackled crucial topics—from maternity rights, overstaying awareness, and gender equality, to peer support, and breaking taboos around menstrual health on Menstrual Health Day. Whether connecting through creative Canva posters or sharing real-life stories in the parks, our Ambassadors continue to empower, inspire, and uplift one another every single day! 💪💜

Meet our first Speaker:

Wong Yi is an award-winning Hong Kong writer, librettist, and one of the founding members and curators of Xi Xi Space.

She was an editor at Fleur des Lettres and host of “Book Review” on RTHK for many years.

In 2020, she was named one of 20 Young Sinophone Novelists to Watch by the Taiwanese literary magazine Unitas.

She is the author of four short story collections, including Ways To Love In A Crowded City (2021), and The Four Seasons of Lam Yip (2019).

She was the Hong Kong Writer-in-Residence for Hong Kong Baptist University’s first Chinese Writers Workshop in 2021, Writer-in-residence for Hong Kong Education University in 2023, and has participated in events such as the Singapore Writers Festival, Singapore Book Fair, Hong Kong International Literary Festival, and Taipei International Book Exhibition.

She currently teaches creative writing at Hong Kong Baptist University and various secondary schools in Hong Kong.
