Meet Nadia, born and raised in Hong Kong. She was inspired to do charity after experiencing a lot of kindness on a trip earlier this year—returning with the drive and capacity to show kindness back. She says she was reminded how important community-mindedness is in solving many of the world’s problems, and how helping others helps build that mindset.

Nadia also loves the city because, even when people live in difficult situations, there’s a special spirit available to guide them—a driving force she feels in everyday life. She’s especially moved by Hong Kong’s vast network of people who look out for one another, something she says you truly see on the walks.

After distribution today, she shared that the walks have quickly become the highlight of her week—seeing the same people receive nourishment through human contact and vegetarian food, prepared with volunteers and restaurants who believe in the cause. She describes it as a highly organised, conscious team effort, where everyone deserves a break and to feel cared for. And for her, it’s a two-way street: everyone involved gains so much from these encounters. Want to join Nadia on our charity walks? Dm us to join!

Many of our volunteers ask our founders, how do you continue to do this every day? What makes you keep going?

We have been serving a recipient for over a year now. We met her on our regular route and asked her if she wanted a meal.
She said she was just waiting for a friend, but she wouldn’t mind one. Ever since then, we have been feeding her three times a week. She waits for us, exchanged numbers and sometimes requests for clothes and toiletries. She promises that she will get back on her feet and be able to do something in her life again.

After this experience, what we realised is that she is also just a human being like us, but due to circumstances, she has been stuck. After a year and a half, she had a friend visit her from her hometown. Since she told her friend that we have been helping her provide meals—without doubt, in the rain, in the cold, and in the hot summer—her friend came to help.

The friend was just visiting Hong Kong, but in fact met her, helped her look more fresh by treating her at a salon, and gave her new clothes and shoes. She also offered her a small space to stay, so at least she has a roof over her head. She still depends on us for meals. But all in all, with her kind gesture of helping her friend, she even went out of her way to purchase us some yummy cream buns from Chateraise, along with a handwritten note thanking us.

In life, sometimes it is just the small gestures that leave a big mark on us. And this is one of the reasons why we still keep going—to have people count on us and give them hope that there is a better tomorrow, as long as they do not give up.

Meet Anna — having lived in Hong Kong for over six years, she adores the city for its food, scenery, and endless opportunities. But what she values most is being able to give back to those less privileged. Witnessing the inequality in Hong Kong inspired Anna to dedicate her spare time to helping others, which led her to discover the Hanuman team on Instagram. Drawn to their hands-on approach in supporting those facing hunger and homelessness, she found a meaningful way to make a difference.

Every distribution leaves Anna feeling more grounded and grateful. The warmth and appreciation shown by both beneficiaries and volunteers remind her of the importance of empathy and connection — values that carry into her daily life. She deeply admires how Hanuman’s founders, Nick and Bianca, treat every single beneficiary with dignity and respect, turning each interaction into something deeply human.

For Anna, volunteering with Hanuman isn’t just about giving meals, but about sharing kindness and understanding within the community. Would you like to join Anna in sharing the kindness? Dm us to know more!
