September is World Alzheimer’s Month.

On 23 September, we remember our beloved Founder, Professor Charles K. Kao, with hearts full of gratitude. We also thank all our readers for their heartfelt messages honouring his legacy.

As September draws to a close, we are pleased to share an article featuring reminiscences of this remarkable man. It was written several years ago by Foundation Governor Dr H.Y. Chiu as a tribute to Professor Kao’s memory.

In Memory of an Exceptional Visionary, PROF. CHARLES K. KAO

Eight years have passed since the world said goodbye to Professor Charles Kao, yet his presence remains as vivid as ever.

Today, we look back with profound gratitude on his pioneering brilliance, which connected the globe through fibre optics.

Beyond his scientific achievements, we celebrate the enduring warmth of his heart, his strength of character in the face of adversity, and his legacy of love and compassion that continues to guide us – in our strive to build a world of hope for those touched by cognitive impairment.

Forever cherished, deeply missed, and always in our thoughts.

高錕教授離開我們八年了，但他的身影依然清晰如昨。

This year, the global community is uniting under a powerful message: "The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters."

A timely check and diagnosis replace fear with clarity, unlocking relevant and vital early support, intervention and treatments, and giving affected families precious time to plan their future together.
