The Harvard Club of Hong Kong Education Fund (HCHKEF), in collaboration with the Harvard Club of Hong Kong and the Harvard Business School Association of Hong Kong, is pleased to be one of the co-presenting organizations bringing Professor Tyler VanderWeele of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and founding director of the Human Flourishing Program to share his insights on human flourishing.
A heartfelt thank you to Karen Seymour of the World Flourishing Organization for inviting Professor VanderWeele and the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard team to Hong Kong.
As part of HCHKEF's commitment to providing continuing mentorship and opportunities for our scholars to interact with real-world practitioners and thought leaders from Harvard University, three Harvard Prize Book awardees attended the event and were thrilled to receive signed copies of Professor VanderWeele's book. Here are their reflections:
Sammul Chan, 2020 Harvard Prize Book Scholarship Winner:
"Professor VanderWeele's talk on Harvard's Human Flourishing Program has truly broadened my horizon. With this newfound understanding, I am now able to cherish and support my friends, family, and students across the five aspects of their growth and nurturing. I would definitely recommend learning more about this flourishing program!"
Yana Chan, 2025 Harvard Prize Book Scholarship Finalist:
"It was very insightful, and I found all the different ways we can better flourish interesting. What was especially fascinating to me was how religious countries had higher flourishing scores even though they were less developed. It was really eye-opening to see how religion could affect human flourishing."
Yla Ip, 2025 Harvard Prize Book Essay Award Runner-Up:
"Professor VanderWeele's talk was exceptional, particularly his insight on religious belief as a pathway to community and his advice on the practice of fulfillment. I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity to widen my knowledge."
Brittany Ng, 2024 Harvard Prize Book Scholarship Winner:
"I'm learning that a positive orientation is the wisest way to engage with the world—not as a return to simplicity, but as a choice to build upon a foundation of meaning, where inward growth and joy become our conscious choice."
We are proud to create these meaningful connections between our Harvard Prize Book scholars and leading thinkers who inspire the next generation to pursue both excellence and well-being.
