The Myth of the Millennium Resounds in Vienna
Patch the Sky (Bu Tian), a nine-movement choral-symphonic oratorio composed by Mr. Huang Anlun, the Music Adviser to the Archbishop of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, will be grandly staged in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna on 29 October 2026. Drawing on China's "Myth of the Millennium", Nüwa smelting five-coloured stones to repair the fractured sky and save life on earth, the work sets lyrics by Liu Liqian to music by Huang Anlun, uniting symphony, chorus and solo voices into one integrated whole. The performance will be performed jointly by the A-Sharp Chorus (USA), Chorus Viennensis and Augarten Harmonics, with accompaniment by the Vienna Volksoper Symphony Orchestra.
Through this performance, an ancient civilizational memory of China and its contemporary musical creation will meet the European choral-symphonic tradition in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein — a musical tale between East and West. Artists and soloists from China, the United States and Austria will present a musical language at once majestic and delicate, letting different cultures shine together across languages on the same stage, and shaping a dramatic journey through crisis, solidarity, hope and renewal.
This is a moment of pride for the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. We cordially invite friends in Vienna to join us on the day of the concert to witness this musical tale between East and West. The music score of Patch the Sky is included in the Huang Anlun Collection of our archives, and all who are interested are most welcome to apply to consult it for research or performance purposes.
