GSU Empowerment Conference
The Girl Stand Up Empowerment Conference is held annually in the month of July in Linden, Guyana. Each year, a group of 75 girls between the ages of 14 through 17 is chosen from six secondary schools in Linden. This event if free of charge and participants are taught by experienced facilitators who present a range of topics spanning the empowerment a
nd self-esteem building spectrum. GSU Teen Mom Empowerment Workshop
The Girl Stand Up Teen Mom Empowerment Workshop is an informative and interactive empowerment event targeting 25 teen mothers between the ages of 13 through 19 in the Linden area. This event is free and will be held annually, for one day in the month of July. Teenage pregnancy continues to be a growing issue and according to a UNICEF Situation Analysis conducted in 2016, teenage pregnancy is still a problem in Guyana. To help reduce this problem, our program will assist Pregnant and Parenting teens balance their lives while being parents. They will be provided with the tools they need through social, emotional and academic support. STANDING IN THE SPOTLIGHT recognition program
Every year two exceptionally inspiring young girls are presented with the Girl Stand Up “Spotlight Award”. This program acknowledges the accomplishments of young girls who attended the GSU workshop in the past. Participants must demonstrate extraordinary leadership, achieve excellence in their area/s of study, or impact their community through generalized change. The Standing in the Spotlight recognition program reflects our mission to build self-esteem, promote empowerment, and make a difference in the community. It aims to encourage former participants to achieve their life goals and help the GSU team foster ongoing relationships with all participants.
