World Bee Day was beautifully celebrated with the bright young minds of St. Ignatius Primary School. It was a wonderful day of sharing knowledge about our buzzing friends while also learning from the many students who are enthusiastic about bees and beekeeping.

Mr. Yimochi Melville, local beekeeper and Technical Coordinator, engaged the students with fun and educational facts about bees and gave them an exciting opportunity to observe live bees up close. Students also took part in painting bee boxes for the apiary, making the experience both creative and educational.

We are grateful to the Department of Education and the administrators of St. Ignatius Primary School for providing the opportunity and space to host this meaningful activity. It was truly a joy to celebrate World Bee Day with such brilliant children.

The Rupununi is growing and agriculture is a big part of its future.

Now is the time for our youths to get ready. Agriculture isn’t just farming anymore, it’s opportunity, innovation, and business.

The RLPA encourages young people to build their skills through the Guyana School of Agriculture and be part of what’s coming.

Start now. Grow with Rupununi.

Improving Sheep Farming in the Rupununi 🐑

The RLPA NODe Sheep Project is a small but important initiative working with RLPA sheep farmers in the South Pakaraimas and South Central Rupununi.

Late last year, farmers participated in training sessions focused on improved sheep management practices. These sessions aimed to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and support better care, productivity, and sustainability in their flocks.

A key part of this project is helping farmers improve their sheep breeds through access to Sante Ines rams, a hardy and productive breed known for its strong performance in tropical environments.

These rams were imported from Brazil thanks to the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Guyana Livestock Development Authority who granted the importation license that made this possible.

To ensure many farmers benefit, the rams will be shared on a rotation basis among participating farmers, helping to gradually improve the genetic quality of sheep across communities.

A special thank you to Conservation International Guyana for funding this project and supporting the development of sustainable livestock farming in the Rupununi.

This initiative reflects the continued commitment to supporting livestock farmers and strengthening sheep production in the region. 🌱🐑

These are the women who help spearhead change and bring vision to the work we do. Their support to all Rupununians, but especially in supporting and uplifting other women, are what we celebrate today.
The 2026 theme, “Give to Gain,” feels especially fitting. It speaks to the quiet but powerful way women contribute to their families, communities, and institutions, often giving their time, knowledge, patience, and strength so that others can grow and move forward.
Today we recognize and thank the women whose dedication, leadership, and steady work help shape the future of our region.
