🌎Happy World Environmental Day

🗣️ Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett, called on the Community to “move forward with urgency, unity, and purpose as we accelerate the transition to a sustainable future”.

🗒️Framing her message in the context of the threat climate change poses to the livelihood and development of the Caribbean, the Secretary-General called on the private sector, financial institutions, civil society, and academia to actively partner with governments to find Caribbean solutions to Caribbean challenges.

🌊 Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett participated in a panel discussion at the Island States Ocean Summit in Tokyo, Japan 🇯🇵 held under the theme “Sustainable Ocean Action for Resilient Islands.”

🌎 During the discussion, Dr. Barnett shared the Caribbean Community’s approach to ocean governance, emphasizing the need to integrate 🌊 ocean governance, 🌱 biodiversity conservation, 🌦️ climate resilience, and 📈 sustainable development to build resilient and prosperous blue economies.

🤝 Highlighting the importance of stronger partnerships, investment, capacity development, and knowledge-sharing, the Secretary-General noted that Small Island Developing States (SIDS) continue to face significant challenges in managing their ocean resources and responding to climate change.

Congratulatory Message to Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 on its Election to the United Nations Security Council, 2027-2028

Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) extend hearty congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on successful election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, for the 2027-2028 term.

The overwhelming support offered by United Nations Member States during elections held on 3 June 2026 reflects the confidence of the international community in Trinidad and Tobago’s longstanding commitment to multilateralism, peace and security, and the principles of the United Nations Charter. This is a proud moment not only for Trinidad and Tobago but for the Caribbean Community as a whole.

is confident that Trinidad and Tobago will bring to the Security Council the unique perspectives of Caribbean Small Island and Low-lying Coastal Developing States through its advocacy on issues critical to the peace and stability of the Caribbean and other vulnerable regions.
