World Environment Day 2026

Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.

In Guyana, this theme carries special significance. From our vast forests and rich biodiversity to our rivers, wetlands, and mangrove ecosystems, nature is at the heart of our identity and one of our greatest strengths in addressing climate change.

As a country recognized for its environmental stewardship, we have a shared responsibility to protect these natural resources while pursuing sustainable development. The choices we make today will shape the future we leave for generations of Guyanese to come.

This World Environment Day, let us recommit to safeguarding our environment, supporting climate action, and ensuring that Guyana's natural wealth continues to benefit both people and planet.

We extend congratulations to the Brighter Future Skills Initiative on the successful completion of its inaugural cohort and recognizes the vision and leadership of Founder, Ms. Carolyn Caesar, in creating opportunities for women and young adults through skills development and empowerment.

We are also proud of the contribution of our Coordinator, Ms. Benita Davis, who served as a Founding Contributor and Monitoring, Evaluation and Feedback Lead for the initiative. Her work helped strengthen participant engagement, programme accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the first cohort.

The successful completion of training by 21 participants demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when community leaders, trainers, volunteers, and partners come together with a shared commitment to empowerment and opportunity.

Congratulations to the graduates and the entire Brighter Future Skills Initiative team on this important milestone. We look forward to seeing the continued growth and impact of this programme.

💧 World Water Day 2026 | Water & Gender

Where water flows, equality grows.

Policy Forum Guyana was proud to mark this important day through both awareness and action.

At Queen’s College, our Coordinator Benita Davis and two volunteers engaged 1st–5th Form students in an interactive session on the value of water, how limited it truly is, and why protecting it matters for everyone—especially women and girls.

Meanwhile in Bartica, two schools—St. John-the-Baptist Primary and Bartica Secondary—took learning beyond the classroom. Through Sandwatch, students carried out their first beach exercise at Golden Beach, building real connections with their environment 🌊🌱

From classrooms to coastlines, we are empowering youth to understand that water is not just a resource—it’s a pathway to equality, opportunity, and sustainable futures.

💙 Let’s protect it.

🌟 Artist Spotlight: "A Shared Beat" by Makayla Browne 🌟

Today, we’re featuring a powerful piece from The Guyana We Need art competition titled "A Shared Beat," which embodies the well-being goal: A Guyana of Vibrant Culture & Languages.

The artist, Makayla Browne, writes:

"This piece draws from music, a shared part of our everyday lives in Guyana. The Guyana we need not only begins with plans and policies but with us—a shift in the way we show up for each other. It uses cultural patterns, different languages, and instruments that reflect how Guyana's people are connected through creativity and shared expression."

The artwork beautifully illustrates that our diverse cultures, traditions, and ethnicities are not barriers, but bridges to understanding, fairness, and inclusive decision-making. It doesn't show perfect unity, but rather celebrates individuality as essential to our wholeness and resilience.

It envisions a Guyana where we are all respected, languages are valued, and ethnicities are celebrated. Though we each make a different sound, together we create the vibrant melody of Guyana. 🎵

Let’s celebrate the creativity and vision of our young artists! 🎨

Artist Spotlight: "Blooming Through Equity" by Jada Roberts
🌺 Where Stories Meet Growth 🎨

Meet Jada Roberts, an 18-year-old self-taught artist and another brilliant voice from art competition.

Her piece, "Blooming Through Equity," speaks powerfully to the well-being goal of a fair and just society. Jada chose a collage of repurposed newspapers as her foundation—symbolizing the many voices and current events that shape our nation. This base calls for sustainability and accountability, essential for true equity.

Rising from this tapestry of stories is Guyana’s national flower, the Victoria Regia Lily, painted in vibrant oils and pastels. For Jada, this lily represents the Guyanese people—needing the right conditions to thrive: fairness, access, justice, and energy. Only with these can true beauty and progress bloom for all.

In her words:

“This piece serves as a reminder that when we build a society based on equity and inclusion, beauty and progress can bloom for everyone—regardless of their background.”

Thank you, Jada, for this layered and hopeful vision of the Guyana we need.
