Learning by doing is one of the best ways to inspire the next generation of conservationists and scientists.
Recently, Iwokrama volunteers Kadia Gilkes and Nathan Chinapen had the unique opportunity to shadow researchers from the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University during field activities in the Iwokrama Forest. Over two days, they observed biodiversity surveys, water quality monitoring, and specimen collection while engaging directly with researchers and Iwokrama Rangers, learning about aquatic ecosystems, insects, fish, and bird species found within the forest.
Experiences like these provide valuable exposure to scientific research and help build the knowledge, skills, and curiosity needed to support the future of conservation in Guyana.
We commend Kadia and Nathan for their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn, and thank our partners for helping to make these opportunities possible.
