Young Pioneers was founded in 2013 by Shivanie Rampersaud. It is a Nongovernmental Organisation that focuses on Youth Development and charitable work. It was established with the aim of getting youths involved in community work and to aid those in need. It targets youths across the country who shares this passion and are willing to decide their time to make a difference. It targets young individua

ls and exposes them to leadership skills and training while getting them involved in community and charitable projects. It provides a platform for them to unlock their full potential and prepare to enter the adult world. Our members are segmented into groups in their various districts. There are currently three groups, namely East Coast Demerara-Georgetown, West Bank- West Coast Demerara and West Berbice Corentyne. Each group comprises a leader which is referred to as the Head Pioneer, while the rest of the members are simply referred to as Pioneers. The founder of the Organisation, Ms. Rampersaud is also the Director of the Organisation. Activities are usually planned and directed by her, while the ex*****on is done by the groups through guidance from the Head Pioneers and herself. Further,Young Pioneers believes that there should be a balance of humanity and individuality in one's life. It is important to note that the organisation stands firmly for ethnic diversity and individuality. This is reflected in the our logo. The circle of hands in various colours represents the uniting of different individuals with different cultures, beliefs and backgrounds, These individuals unite for a greater Good and works towards YP's Motto "Creating a better tomorrow." Over the past years, Young Pioneers have organised and executed a number of activities including toy drives, book drives, outreaches, food and clothing distributions, funds for medical assistance, health and other social campaigns, visits to old age homes and Orphanages among others. Last week, a mother who is "legally blind" reached out to us and requested assistance as she is struggling to provide for herself and her teenage son due to her condition.

She explained that she can no longer work and struggles to provide food and transportation for her son to attend school in Georgetown, as they are currently residing on the West Bank of Demerara. The child sometimes stays with a relative in Georgetown just to attend school or depends on assistance from kind individuals to do the same. However, when he stays overnight his mother is left alone.

On Tuesday Young Pioneers Executive team member Seeram Nandalall and Founder and President Shivanie Rampersaud visited the family and dropped off basic food items. The hamper was provided by YP's team member Liz. Other items were picked up on the way including rice, toothpaste etc.

The struggling mom has asked for YP to make a public assistance post on her behalf to help her son to attend school and provide necessities for them until she can better her situation. Contributions can be made to YP's MMG 592 637-4300.

Mrs. Rampersaud is also currently working with her to apply for assistance from the Ministry of Social Protection.

We currently have a few dozen pairs of children's short pants remaining from one of our distributions. They are all new and small-sized, sizes 2-6, and can fit children ages 1-3/4 years old, depending on the child's size. They are unisex and suitable for both boys and girls. Please provide suggestions for any area that may have children who can benefit or reach out if your child needs them.
