Last week, a mother who is "legally blind" reached out to us and requested assistance as she is struggling to provide for herself and her teenage son due to her condition.
She explained that she can no longer work and struggles to provide food and transportation for her son to attend school in Georgetown, as they are currently residing on the West Bank of Demerara. The child sometimes stays with a relative in Georgetown just to attend school or depends on assistance from kind individuals to do the same. However, when he stays overnight his mother is left alone.
On Tuesday Young Pioneers Executive team member Seeram Nandalall and Founder and President Shivanie Rampersaud visited the family and dropped off basic food items. The hamper was provided by YP's team member Liz. Other items were picked up on the way including rice, toothpaste etc.
The struggling mom has asked for YP to make a public assistance post on her behalf to help her son to attend school and provide necessities for them until she can better her situation. Contributions can be made to YP's MMG 592 637-4300.
Mrs. Rampersaud is also currently working with her to apply for assistance from the Ministry of Social Protection.
