Su***de prevention starts with conversations, compassion, and being willing to listen.

A simple check-in can mean more than we realise. If someone tells you they’re struggling, listen without judgement, take them seriously, and remind them that they don’t have to face difficult moments alone.

Let’s look out for each other, make space for honest conversations, and encourage people to seek support when they need it.

You matter. Your life matters. And asking for help is okay. And most of all remember that you are enough just as how you are.

Recently, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), hosted a consultation with members of the disability community to discuss ways to make the electoral process more inclusive and accessible for persons with disabilities.

The consultation provided an opportunity for persons with disabilities and their representatives to share their experiences, concerns, and recommendations for improving participation in the electoral process.

As primary and nursery schools across Guyana reopen for the Christmas term, the Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons with Disabilities (GCOPD) wishes every student, teacher, and school community a successful and fulfilling term ahead.

Congratulations to Afeefa Ally on her outstanding achievement at the CSEC 2026 examinations! 🎓

Afeefa, who is totally blind, sat her May–June CSEC examinations at Skeldon Line Path Secondary School and earned an impressive 10 subjects, including 7 Grade Ones and 3 Grade Twos. Among her achievements were a Grade One in Principles of Accounts and a Grade Two in General Mathematics.

We are also proud to share that Afeefa was recently employed on a part-time basis at the Empower Guyana Centre for Equity, Opportunity and Innovation in Palmyra, Region Six.

Afeefa is a beneficiary of the GCOPD ExxonMobil-funded Orientation and Mobility Programme, and her accomplishments are a wonderful reminder of what determination, opportunity, and inclusion can achieve. We celebrate her success and wish her every continued success in the future. 💙
