Minister of Human Services and Social Security Vindhya Persaud is warning that civilians, particularly parents, could face criminal charges if they fail to report cases of child abuse or teenage pregnancy involving minors.
The Minister stated that anyone aware of such incidents who does not report them could be considered complicit under the law.
She explained that once reports are made, the Childcare and Protection Agency intervenes, working alongside the Guyana Police Force to investigate and provide support to victims.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to strengthen reporting systems and raise awareness about the legal responsibility to report abuse.
