Waste To Wealth Caribbean recently had the privilege of personally delivering a plaque of appreciation to His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown Alfred Mentore - Councillor for his endorsement and support of Guyana's inaugural International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) event held at the National Park.

During the event, Mayor Mentore expressed strong support for the integration of composting into municipal systems and highlighted the potential use of organic materials, including shredded coconut shells, to improve soil conditions in public spaces such as cemeteries, parks, and green areas throughout Georgetown.

With landfill sites receiving an estimated 1,500 to 3,500 tons of waste daily, his support reinforces the importance of practical, community-driven solutions that promote environmental responsibility, food security, and economic empowerment.

Waste To Wealth Caribbean extends sincere gratitude to His Worship Mayor Alfred Mentore for recognizing the value of citizen education and composting as part of a cleaner, greener, and richer Guyana.

Every day, between 1,500 and 3,000 tons of waste are transported to our landfill sites. Approximately 50% of that waste is biodegradable and consists largely of kitchen scraps, food waste, and cardboard.

For many Georgetown residents, the smell experienced when passing the Eccles landfill is a reminder that waste does not simply disappear. Much of that smell comes from organic materials that could have been transformed into something valuable.

What if every household took responsibility for the waste it generates?

What if instead of sending kitchen scraps and cardboard to the dumpsite, we converted them into Organic Miracle Garden Soil (O.M.G.S.) in under 12 weeks?

Last evening I shared a piece of my soul with my Legendary Toastmasters Clubโ€ผ๏ธ

We all carry immense valueโ€ฆ yet oftentimes the greatest value within us is overlooked.

Last night I challenged each Toastmaster and friend present to ask themselves:

โ“What value within me have I been overlooking?

More importantlyโ€ฆ
What am I going to do about it?

I urged them to take action on it.

One of the greatest lessons I am learning through the Waste To Wealth movement is this:

Waste can be transformed into something precious.

Kitchen scraps become rich organic soil.
Cardboard becomes nourishment for the earth.
What was once discarded becomes valuable again.

And perhaps the same is true for us.

Sometimes hidden beneath fear, delay, rejection, pain or self-doubt lies untapped brilliance waiting to be harvested.

The value is already within.
It simply needs to be uncovered, cultivated and activated.
