Today , the Guyana Customs House Brokers and Clerks Association held a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Mr. Roger Rogers along with Miss Safrana Cameron- Baird , Director of Commerce and other officials to discuss matters affecting us in the area of trade. The meeting held in the Ministry’s boardroom, cantered around discussions regarding the recently implementation of the Electronic Single Windows for Trade and the support it provides to the GRA’s Asycuda online platform for the submission of customs declarations . We were able to give our professional advice on the functionality of these two platforms as well as trade issues affecting businesses in general.

We see this collaboration as key in the development of trade in Guyana and we look forward to further engagements such as these with other key stakeholders in the area of trade and development.

Today we mourn the passing of one of our customs clerks in the name of Emanuel James . Known to all as young rising dancehall super star Lil Saint .

From my understanding, he was a star on the dance floor and a gentleman when conducting customs clearances . He was well respected by his peers and it’s a pithy I didn’t had the opportunity to meet or know him.

I saw his story being featured on some news media and I was saddened to learn of his passing due to a prolonged stomach illness. Little did I know personally that he was a customs clerk. So from all of us at the Guyana Customs House Brokers and Clerks Association, we would like to extend deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones and to all who established relations with him and are in mourning at this time .

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
