Hope Foundation was a part of the relief outreach team to visit Puruni after the massive fire that left many displaced and in a state of loss and despair.
The team was led by the Regional Chairman, Mr. Kenneth Williams
The team included several Service Providers Agencies including Hope Foudation, HIAS Guyana, Guyana Red Cross Society, Project: New Nation, Health and media personnel.
The devastation of the fire at Puruni Landing on Wednesday, 10th October 2024. The fire started at approximately 10:30 hrs
17 buildings, including hotel, guest house, convenience shop, restaurant, boutique, 4 trucks, boat, mining equipment and fuel depot were destroyed leaving about 80 persons both local population and Venezuelan migrants were displaced. In No casualties were reported.
Those who suffer losses and are badly are now seeking assistance and support to get their lives back to normalcy. However, these persons (both migrants and Guyanese) are now in need of help in various forms, both emergency support and other immediate help.
After conducting a needs assessment, the following is of high emergency demand:
Food Supplies
Clothing for women and men
Tarpaulins
Sheets
Beds
Hygiene items for both males and females
Financial support
