WHY MAYOR? WHY NOW?
“Alan!” she exclaimed, “What makes you want to run for Mayor?” I was ready to answer, but before I could respond she said with curiousity... “You’re a telecommunication marketing professional. You’re a small business owner. You do high-end visual merchandising for luxury brands and goods. You plan and produce amazing special events for nonprofits, community organizations, and Guam’s business community.” She paused and gave me a puzzled look... “Why on earth do want to get involved in politics? Why mayor? Why Now?” she asked. Questions I hear often as I talk to people about our need for change.
Politics, these days, is not something most people want to get involved with. It’s a loaded subject. Voters are dissatisfied with the way things have gone on, seemingly forever, with very little change - except when election time rolls around.
Then there are promises that too soon evaporate...until the next election approaches. Like many of my fellow Tamuning residents, my neighbors and friends in Tumon and Harmon, I have heard the promises and waited for the progress.
