The mission of Humanities Guåhan is to foster community engagement and dialogue, inspire critical thinking, and celebrate diversity.

By the People: Conversations Beyond 250 is a series of community-driven programs created by humanities councils across the United States, its territories, and the District of Columbia in collaboration with local partners. Together, these programs explore 250 years of the nation’s cultural life and imagine its shared future. The initiative was developed by the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage as a complement to the 2026 Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

🎭🎨✨This is what your gift makes possible. From weaving mats to zines, scrolls, and canoes — our Art+Ideas program brought people together in the past two years to reflect, reclaim, and create. These community-rooted workshops were part of the NEH initiative “United We Stand: Connecting Through Culture” with the aim to foster unity through the arts and humanities.

🎭 This weekend, we supported Nothing Micro About Micronesia —a moving story about Micronesian youth navigating identity, migration, and family across the Pacific.

📚 In conjunction, we also hosted a workshop with students at Southern High School, a matinee for GW and Southern High students, and a storytelling workshop with kids at the FSM Consulate.

🧡 Events like this are possible because of years of community partnerships. But with the loss of over $750K in federal funding, we need your help to keep cultural programming alive.

🇬🇺🌺🏝️ Si Yu’os Ma’åse’ to Governor Lou Leon Guerrero for her early and heartfelt support of our Humanities Guåhan during a time of uncertainty. As our former board chair, the Governor understands the vital role the humanities play in building a stronger, more connected Guåhan.

During our April 13 meeting, she shared her continued support and encouragement, reaffirming her commitment to the work we do.
