Today, we are at the official opening of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum, hosted by Belau in Koror State, where Pacific leaders, governments, and civil society organizations are gathering for a week of discussions, deliberations, and decisionmaking.

This is the first time PIF has returned to Micronesia since 2018 in Naoero.

If you’re not familiar with the Pacific Islands Forum, it’s one of the region’s most important spaces for Pacific governments and regional partners to address shared priorities including climate change, ocean governance, sustainable development, and regional security.

This year’s theme is B.E.L.A.U. — Building Economies: Life. Action. Unity.

Ocean governance remains a major priority, while deep-sea mining is also part of the regional conversation as Pacific governments consider the long-term consequences of seabed resource extraction.

Regional security is another major issue as geopolitical competition and military activity continue to increase across the Pacific. But, in the Pacific Islands, few issues are more urgent than the climate crisis.

Across the Micronesia and the Pacific Region, communities are confronting the realities of a changing climate after enduring multiple extreme super typhoons alongside warming and rising seas and increasing threats to our deep seas and systems.

The Government of Guam will be represented by its own official delegation.

Guåhan recently became an Associate Member of the Pacific Islands Forum in 2025, while our sister islands in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands participate in this forum under an observer status.

Micronesia Climate Change Alliance will be participating in civil society organizations forums and related youth events.

Join us over the next week as we follow what the outcomes are of PIFLM55, and how they directly affect us here in the Marianas.

As relief efforts continue in Rota, we are also supporting vulnerable communities impacted across northern Guåhan.

Communities in Dededo and Yigo experienced the strongest impacts in Guam, with typhoon-force winds causing widespread destruction and displacing hundreds of families.

Our commitment to a just recovery means working to ensure that no one is left behind. So to help meet immediate needs, we partnered with World Central Kitchen and distributed 4,900 meals over the course of 10 days. As the American Red Cross has now taken over meal distribution efforts, we’re grateful to have helped bridge the gap during a critical time.

Our team identified many other needs aside from food in these areas and will be organizing relief kits with critical supplies for delivery into these areas.

Si Yu’os Ma’åse to and all of our amazing volunteers. So many are not pictured on our final day of feeding but you know who you are 💚 meggai Ma’åse!

When disasters happen, many of us immediately want to send supplies, and we are so grateful.

But for Luta (Rota) and typhoon relief in general, financial donations are often the fastest, most effective way to help communities recover.

This post explains why cash assistance can have the greatest impact right now- from supporting local businesses, volunteers, covering urgent needs, and giving families the dignity to purchase what they need most.

Thank you to everyone who has shown up for the community. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps move recovery forward.

NA’SAFU HAMYO — As we prepare for Super Typhoon Bavi, our mutual aid teams are meeting again to coordinate response efforts across the Marianas. We’re checking in with our community allies in Turtle Island to discuss next steps around relief efforts. And MCCA is currently working with World Central Kitchen to coordinate meal distributions to vulnerable communities once the storm lifts.

Many families are still recovering from the last super typhoon, and now we’re facing another one. We’ll continue doing what our communities have always done: show up for each other. We’ll share what we have. And we’ll make sure no one gets left behind.

Si Yu’us Ma’ase yan Ghilisow to everyone who has donated, volunteered, cooked meals, packed supplies, checked on your neighbors, checked in on manamko, or offered support in any way. Your generosity is what makes this heart work possible.

Please take time to prepare, check in on your family and neighbors, and stay safe. We’ll continue sharing updates as we mobilize in the days ahead. Stay Safe, Marianas 🙏🏽

The Marianas are once again preparing for a super typhoon before we’ve had time to recover from the last one.

This is what climate injustice looks like: communities that contributed the least to the climate crisis are living with some of its harshest consequences.

The Pacific doesn’t need more praise for our resilience. We need time to recover. We need investment before disaster strikes, and a seat at the table where climate decisions are made.

Islas Marianas, we’re holding you close. Na’såfu, hamyo!

Please take care of yourselves, check on your loved ones, and stay safe.

To everyone beyond our islands: please don’t forget about the Pacific. We are worthy of protection, of a just recovery, and of a future where our communities can thrive ❤️‍🩹

In the wake of recent typhoon Sinlaku which hit less than 3 months ago, Typhoon Bavi now heads towards Guam, CNMI, & neighboring Islands in the coming hours/days.

Typhoons & environmental disasters can bring uncertainty, especially if you’re pregnant, recently gave birth, or caring for a newborn.

Preparing ahead gives you one less thing to worry about when the storm arrives.

Swipe through for a few ways to prepare yourself, your baby, and your family before severe weather.

And if you know someone who is pregnant or postpartum, check in on them. Offer to pick up supplies, share information, or simply ask how they’re doing.

Sometimes the greatest source of resilience isn’t just what’s in our emergency kit, it’s also knowing we’re not alone.

Climate and environmental catastrophes threaten our health & are a reproductive justice issue. We need each other & we need to center & care for our most vulnerable & impacted.

There’s been a lot of confusion about whether COFA migrants are eligible for FEMA assistance after Sinlaku. In 2024, the law changed, and COFA migrants living in the United States are now eligible to apply for FEMA assistance under the new law. COFA migrants who were living in the CNMI during Typhoon Sinlaku are eligible to apply for assistance.

COFA migrants should have their valid passport from the FSM, Palau or the RMI, or their current I-94 available to prove their status as COFA migrants.

Please be aware that FEMA may share the information from your application with ICE. Anyone who is worried about possible immigration consequences should consult with an immigration attorney.
