Sept. 11, 2026 -- News Release
Archdiocese partners with Community
Health Workers on research project
supporting diabetes prevention
---
The Archdiocese of Agaña, in collaboration with local Community Health Workers (CHWs) will launch a community health project in early October focused on helping eligible local residents reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes and support their overall health and wellbeing.
The project provides participants with an opportunity to take part in a structured health program that includes practical health information, lifestyle coaching, nutritional education, and health assessments. The goal is to support participants in developing healthy, sustainable habits while contributing to research that may help inform future approaches to diabetes prevention.
This is a three-month weight loss program with components of social determinants and health activities delivered by CHWs. The program is aimed at helping participants lose weight and understand specific and relevant social determinants of health challenges.
The archdiocese’s participation reflects its commitment to serving the community and supporting opportunities that promote the dignity, health, and wellbeing of each person. Through this collaboration, eligible community members will have an opportunity to learn more about diabetes prevention and participate in a research study in accordance with the study’s requirements.
The research project, including participant compensation of up to $150, is funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Compensation is intended to help offset minor expenses related to attending sessions and completing required health assessments, as specified by the study.
The research project is open to community members who meet the study’s eligibility requirements, which include:
● Being 18 years of age or older; and
● Having one or more risk factors for type 2 diabetes, which may include a family history of diabetes.
Participant information and personal health information will be handled confidentially and in accordance with applicable research requirements. Preliminary health screenings and enrollment activities are expected to begin later this month in preparation for the October launch. The deadline to apply to participate is Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Community members who are interested in learning more about the study or determining whether they may be eligible, can visit https://bit.ly/POLV-26 to complete the initial screening form. Completion of the screening form does not guarantee enrollment; eligibility will be determined according to the study requirements.
