Applications are open for the 2027 Ornis x Lost Birds Expedition Grants.
In 2026, five young birders received grants of up to $5,000 to search for lost birds around the world. Their expeditions have already produced incredible results, including the rediscovery of the Red Weaver in Kenya and three lost birds found in New Ireland, Papua New Guinea.
Now, a new round of grants is open for young birders ages 18-30. Grants of up to $5,000 are available to support expeditions searching for species on the Lost Birds list.
This year also introduces Storytelling Grants for young writers, communicators, photographers, videographers, and researchers interested in sharing stories and content about lost birds. A list of suggested target species is also available, highlighting birds that may be especially feasible and interesting to search for in 2027.
